We love Ouest! By no means the best restaraunt in the city, but it has a nice atmosphere with great service. I love the poached lobster in cauliflower custard, followed by the ribeye with creamed spinach. Every desert we have had has been great. We probably hit Ouest 2-3 times a year for that special celebration where we don't feel like heading farther than a few blocks from the apartment. Give it a go - you will not be dissapointed.

I was pretty disappointed by my experience here. For a $135 meal (including tip) for two, I expect something outstanding, which this was not. Our salad was just okay. In the smoked duck appetizer, the duck was served like one strip of a fruit roll-up - tasty but fussy. The tuna was not as good as tuna I've had elsewhere, though I'll admit the skate was delicious. (And would it kill them to serve a vegetable with the main course without charging for it as a side dish?) I did enjoy the dessert. The service was slow. For me, the place did not live up to its billing, though perhaps I expected too much.

The sturgeon was fantastic as was the veal and sweetbreads. The lobster and cauliflower appetizer was outstanding! Generous portions as well. Meal was very expensive and unfortunately our waiter was as rude as they come. However, if you're looking for great food and can manage to ignore the poor waitstaff, then I would highly recommend this restaurant!

Can't say much about the dining room because we always eat at the bar. The bartenders are great and know all the regulars. The cauliflower custard with poached lobster is a meal in itself. The sturgeon is popular and for the meateaters, the braised short ribs are the way to go. It's a bit pricey, but we never leave disappointed.

Generic, mediocre cooking. The food arrived cold. The fish was overcooked, the rabbit seemed to have been prepared ahead of time. Two of us were served our entrees while the other two entrees simply did not arrive. When we notified our server, he said that the kitchen was "off its game" that evening. Unfortunately, a gratuitous dessert could not make up for what happened (or did not happen) before.

Ouest is a nice fancy place with a casual and classy feel. Its a treat to dine there. The food is is excellent, but you must pay for this excellence. I don't think the owners were intending to market it as a super-value place. They wanted a super cool yummy place. And that's what Ouest is. We have only had a snobby waiter once, but it's too bad it had to happen. She didn't take away from the meal too much because there's no reason to let that sort of stuff bother you - but it's a shame she had to be that way. At any rate, I will always enjoy eating there whenever I'm prepared to drop a buck because I know I will always get wonderfully piquant food.
