    Ordering delivery issues

I called, they asked if they could put me on hold...I didn't know they would leave me hangin for 5 minutes. I hung up and called back, they put me on hold again. I've learned my lesson.

    No Late Night Delivery

Every time i call between 11 and 11:30 pm i am always put on hold and never taken care of.If you don't want to deliver this late don't.Also if i do get help they always tell me it will be at least anhour and i always receive it within 15 minutes. It is obvious they are trying to discourage me.

    decline of the empire

Went to Otto's last week, had not been in ages. The pizza was pathetic -- the poor quality cheese on the margherita was rubbery. The entire pizza was much too salty, to the point that no other flavor was evident. Wine was decent, but it was one that I knew. The escarole was fine. I went out with an Italian friend the next day who was visiting NY and I would have been embarrased to take her to Otto. We went elsewhere. There is much better pizza to be had in NY. Otto's seems to be gliding on its past reputation. Too much celebrity (copies of the books all over) and too little oversight in the kitchen.

    The Good and Bad

I've been to Otto twice. The first time I had reservations for 6, and we were seated right away. The restaurant was busy at this time, but not packed (the reason why we were seated without a wait). The service was overall very good, with the exception of our waiter dissapearing after we were given our check. The food was also very good...great cheeses/olives, very good pasta/pizza and a very unique dessert. The second time I went to Otto things were not as great. This time we didn't have a reservation. We got there at 7 and had to wait until 8:30 for a table. The only good thing was that we were able to order appetizers at the bar area in front of the restaurant. The girls who work at the reception area do not seem to care very much. The food was very good this time as well, and our waiter was really nice, but he (like the 1st visit) dissapeared after giving us the check. This is a good date spot, but make sure to make reseravations!! Or just have cheese and wine in the front.

Don't go for a special occasion

The atmosphere was great, food was good, but what ruined the restaurant was the service and the rudeness of the wait staff. We went to celebrate a birthday with a group of 12, with reservations made far in advance. While we were seated promptly, once the waitress arrived she counted the group, realized that there were 12 of us and informed the group that because of the size of the party, we would need to order from a prix fixe menu. Of course, some of the dishes that the birthday girl wanted to try were not on prix fixe menu. The waitress refused to take anyone's order until the entire table agreed to a prix fixe menu. They ended up re-seating us as 2 tables (without offering a free appetizer or dessert for the trouble) and once we were seated, no one came by to take our wine or drink orders. After about 30 minutes, we flagged down a manager to get the orders. Ultimately, while the salads, cheese plates, and pizza were all very good, the meal was completely overshadowed by the rudeness of the staff and the complete disregard that they showed for a special occasion. Definitely left a sour taste in all of our mouths..

Solid restaurant with attentive, friendly service

We picked this restaurant because we had a guest in town and wanted to try out one of Mario Batali's places, but didn't have the budget for Babbo or Del Posto. We made a 5-pm OpenTable reservation on Friday, arrived at 5:10, and were seated as soon as our whole group arrived. The menu invites you to have an adventure in flavor with the selection of cheeses, cured meats, and wines. We took our server's suggestions here. I haven't figured out the logic of dipping sauces: many other tables seemed to have olive oil, but we received three different plates: honey, cherries, and spicy dried apricots. When it came time to order dessert, our server, remembering my food allergies, pre-emptively marked the items I couldn't eat right on my copy of the dessert menu. This has almost never happened to me before, in any restaurant, high-end or low (I usually have to ask again), and I am totally impressed. We shared three cheeses, one special appetizer, two pizzas, one pasta, two vegetable sides, four desserts, and no wine, and the total bill was $91 before tip. We were stuffed. We had a great time, and we look forward to our next visit!

    Not the Best Pizza

Only in NY, kids.. Only in NY. Where else on the planet could pizza for 2 with mushrooms cost $40.00? Yep, you better believe it did. When the pie came, I was shocked. I could not find enough cheese on it to feed a mouse. The crust was drowning in tomato sauce. When I asked the waiter where's the cheese, he laughed and exclaimed proudly " thats our style". I paid my forty dollars cash and walked to the front door. The waiter junps me from behind as I try to leave (and as I swallow my disappointment with the lame pizza and price) and he asks me if I want change back from my $40. as I am walking out the door.
