    Nice restaurant

My wife and I ate a late lunch there last weekend. They were very busy at the time, but we were promptly seated at a two top in the middle of the restaurant. It turned out to be a great table to watch the show, but conveniently away from some larger tables with rambunctious kids. She had the pasta amatriciana, and I had the pasta puttanesca. Both were good, not great. The waiter recommended we try two gelatos - olive oil and dark chocolate. I was reluctant about the former, but it was excellent and the dark chocolate was exceptional. We''ll be talking about those desserts for a long time. We'd definitely go back.

    For tomato sauce lovers!

I am Italian and I went to Otto with some friends on January 2010, interested about this Batali's pizzeria. The response was: OK for the value, OK for the service, good wine list, but please... don't call "Italian" those pasta and pizza! The pizza was really too saucy, and the pasta too. My carbonara was not a carbonara! Where's the pecorino? And... why to use scallions? I'm sorry, this place can be good, but not for me.

    Batali fans

What can we say but Mario Batali is a genius. The place is on 8th street, hence the name of the restaurant is what we were thinking. Cozy, hopping on a Friday night with a young but hip crowd, not over run by NYU students. Wine selection is impressive! We had a 10pm reso and were seated at 10:01pm. Amazing. Our ticket's name was displayed on this wall which made it nice not to have to hold on to a beeper or have our name called over a loud speaker. Service was excellent, attentive, informative. The clove honey with truffles is brilliant. Take a second taste as the first one takes a minute to hit your brain to let you know, this stuff should be bottled. Unfort, it isn't. I asked. Dip your delish bread in it with your selection of cheeses. To die for. We ordered 2 indiv size pizzas which we ate half and shared a pasta dish. Order the 3 scoop ice cream and be sure to get the olive oil gelato. Weird but so good and different. You can't stop at one spoonful. Service 10 out of 10, food 9 1/2 out of 10, atmosphere 10 out of 10. We can't wait to go back and bring friends.

    Great food, so so service

The food here is great and a ridiculous value. Two people can eat for less than $20. Although the wine list is extensive and will set you back quite a bit if you drink with your dinner. The service is a bit lazy though. We were seated at a small table right next to the waiters' station for dinner. Though we didn't mind the small table, all of the waitstaff and hostesses continued to congregate and chit chat there, and were literally right next to our table. We found this a bit inconsiderate. Additionally, you would think that sitting right by the wait station that we would have the most attentive service. The exact opposite. It took our waiter at least ten minutes to bring us olive oil to accompany the bread he left on the table. Every request took about 10-15 minutes to be executed. I would go back because the food is quite good and ridiculously cheap, I just won't be expecting much from the staff.

    poor service

We didn't even know who our waiter was, because several people randomly came over. The guy that I think was our waiter did not listen to what we wanted and got our order wrong, although we never got a chance to tell him, and generally looked pissy and like he thought he was it above it all (try again!). Just really poor service - there is really no excuse for that (I was a waiter in college and knew the basics of customer service). The food is enjoyable and the wine list extensive, but the service at this place destroys it. FAIL.

    Fun time but rude staff

You would think you are on SNL the way the staff acts like you just walked into "Jeffery's." I actually like getting pasta here because plenty of other places sell pizza and meats that are just as good, but here you can get good pasta too. The problem is most of the people working there take themselves and the place way too seriously. After all, it is a pizzeria. Festive atmosphere is a plus if they could just get some servers from a national chain that provide service with a smile.

    Good experience

We went to Otto recently and had a great experience. The service was very attentive and overall we were very pleased. The pizzas weren't anything that would blow your socks off but they were fine. The pastas, were great. I'm not much of a dessert person but we decided to try to olive oil gelato and were amazed. What a great way to end an overall tasty meal.
