    Overpriced and disappointing

This place is not all it is hyped up to be. I ate here last week and found the food mediocre and the service terrible. Although we had a reservation, we were seated at a table on the path to the kitchen (loud & noisy). Our entrees were brought out before we finished the appetizer, and sat there getting cold while we ate our appetizer. When our server was asked about wine selections, she offered up only one recommendation--the most expensive per glass wine. The food was not that great, and we were rushed through the meal. THE BEST PART, however, was that later when I emailed the management to complain, I was told that it was my fault for not pointing out the problems while I was in the restaurant so that they "could have been corrected." How do you correct cold food when it's already on the table? Apparently I got lousy service because I wasn't a loud, obnoxious, and demanding guest. I guess my friends and I didn't spend enough money to get decent service.

    Mario Batali's Pizza Hut

I first went to Otto shortly after it opened. we had a lovely dinner. since then i've been a few times, the last probably two years ago. i've always enjoyed it. Saturday night i took my uncle and cousin, who haven't been to NY in years. THe food was DISAPPOINTING. the Pizza was soggy, the pasta overly sauced. the service was mediocre, the music was blaring. the wine was lovely, even great. everything else was a tremendous disappointment.

    Rushed service

It seems that Otto has a swollen head - when dining there a few weeks ago (with a prior reservation), my group and I were rushed through our meal - the main course was brought out while we were still eating our appetizers, the servers repeatedly interrupted our main course to ask if we were done, and our dessert was taken away while we were still eating it. On top of that we were then asked to leave the table because the restaurant had to "move the table" - seat other waiting customers - and we were told that Otto was not the type of restaurant where patrons could linger, but a place for a "quick bite" and that patrons were expected to get up promptly when done. This was outrageous and ruined what was supposed to be a fun night out.

Were we in the right place?

We had lunch today at Otto and now I read the reviews here and wonder if we were at the wrong place? Pizzas that were "tasteless", "ruined", or "tasted like carpet"? Are they kidding. In my humble opinion if anyone thinks that, they should stick with those thick soggy day old slices from a Times Square window. We shared an Otto white pizza with goat cheese and asparagus and a classic red sauce one with arugula and proscuitto. Both were wonderful, great thin crusts, bursting with flavors from the fresh and abundant ingredients. We're anxious to go back. These were probably the best pizzas we've had in New York -- coal oven or not.

    Great gelato

The best gelato in the city with unusual flavors such as olive oil and corn. Gelato can be picked up for take out. Great cheese selection for appetizer. A bit loud though- so not recommended for romantic dates. Good for big groups.

    Not recommended

Sure it seems reasonable but the wine is served in a caraff (glass and a half) at like $20..not worth it. Pizzas- all were inedible. Who thought one could ruin pizza. Tomato sauce was tasted just wet- no taste. Cheese didnt seem fresh, it was like Kraft not fresh. The pizza dough was like eating a carpet- no taste at all. As for the pastas...all were too aldente and hard, had tasteless sauces. Only highlight was the cheeses and the dips that come with them. Gelato was like icemilk in a chinese place. Scene was cool but loud from clanking glasses and a crowded auditorium feel.

    Love the Truffle Honey

My cousin brought us here for some wine and cheese. It sounds simple, but it was simply fantastic. Part of it was the company that we had. The service was helpful and attentive. The wine seemed chosen just for my palate and the cheese assortment wasn't too strong. Oh and paired with truffle honey, YUM! I'll be dreaming about truffle honey all week. The atmosphere is young, perfect for a nice get together with friends.
