    very very good

best pizza I have ever had - fun atmosphere (loud though) - highly recommended - best value for the money yet in NYC

    Unpleasant experience

The service was absolutely terrible. The entire party arrived a 1/2 hr after the reservation time and as a "punishment" were made to wait 2 1/2 hrs for a table. We had told the hostess on three separate occassions that there would be a fifth joining us and that we would order for them. When seating time came four chairs were placed and that bitter manager came over huffing and puffing about their policy. I told her this was unaccepatble. And that she had to do something after which she claimed that is what she came by to do but if I was more polite and some nonsense of how her mother always told her . . . . catch more flies with honey. i guess Mario never told her the customer is always right. Nonetheless the change was promptly made after she insisted on lecturing me on the need to be polite.

    the bar....

we arrived early on a sunday, 4:30PM, and after 15 minutes hat seats at the bar. very difficult to get, as people seem to linger here. anyway, the complaints re Otto are unfounded. this is a simple, casual eatery with a nod to traditional italian style. most importantly, pricing is extremely competitive. tell me where else in NYC you'll find a selection of appetizer sides priced at $4 each? or where you'll have an excellent and traditional margherita pizza for $9? Otto delivers exactly on its promise, if you think otherwise maybe you should dine back out in the 'burbs....

    Okay, but not great

I have been here before and it is never great. They try to put too many tables in the main dining room, even for New York City standards. The appetizers were actually really good, but the entrees were not particularly good. Service was alright, but nothing spectacular. There are definitely better restaurants that are better values.

Come on people! Show us better value!

We ate here last night .. and wow what a pleasant experience. Don't know what some of these "Critics" are complaining about, but if you like really good wine (and generous pours!) this is the place to be. The appetizers are outstanding and reasonable. The spicy salami pizza was awesome and plenty for two. Perfect place for groups of people. Listen we are not coming back to celebrate our anniversary, but this place deserves a little more respect and WE WILL be back!!!!!

    Otto Review

I had read all the reviews about this place and had gotten discouraged, so I decided to try it for myself. I thought that the bread that was put on the table could have been a little fresher and the fact that it was wrapped in a sorta paper wasn't too appetizing, it was somewhat hard so I passed on that (they only give you one big piece) not too generous. Although the menu doesn't offer a huge selection what I did get was very good. The eggplant appetizer was good and good enough to split so everyone can have a little tasting. Then I had the proscutti pizza which was very good, Overall we were all very happy w/our meal and I would def. come back for the pizza. The wine was a bit overpriced-I would suggest getting a bottle to share amongst friends. The atmosphere was good, Good for groups!

    For shame

I went on a wednesday evening an off night, and found the food to be medicore at best. We tried a few of the pasta dishes inlcuding the spaghetti and meatball "special" and the carbonara and found it bland, boring and served a bit cold.. It was put very well in a previous review that Chef Boyardee is michelin star quality compared ot the food they were serving, not to mention that they ration the bread they bring to the table. The wine list as extensive as it may seem lists many crappy overpriced and wines and the service was unfriendly unattentive and incompetent, not only did our waiter forgert on more than one occasion items we ordered, but they messed up the order as well... i will certainly not be returning here, nor reccomending this place to anyone... Mario Batalli would be dissapointed with the quality of food and service at this restuarant....in one word.. rubbish!
