    Subpar Italian Food

Not good. It was way to salty and what I thought would be great, "fresh" pasta was probably worse than if I had rolled it myself. The worst part was the price, almost one hundred dollars for food which reminded me of something i would get at a diner off the highway!

    Best in the Tri-State

I have been to many Italian restaurants in New York and the surrounding areas, and this by far is the best. The atmosphere is outstanding, with wonderful paintings and great music. The lighting is superb, and everything about the place is relaxing. The service was also excellent, with our waiter never far away, and always paying attention to our needs, with a smile. He was more than happy to explain anything we asked about, and if he did not know he would consult the chef. As for the food... unbelievable. I have tasted many a fine dish at many a fine restaurant, and for what I had (Gnochetti al sorrentino) it was without a doubt the finest. My companion had the Fettucini Bolognese which I tasted, and that was also out of this world. The bread was exceptional, and the little knots of fried dough we were served also exceeded any expectation. As for the value... could the prices be considered high? Perhaps... consider that you are in Flatiron, Midtown Manhattan. And even if you weren't, the combined quality of food, service, and atmosphere more than command the premium rate. If the food leaves me talking about it for days to come, then I say it was well worth the money. I will be returning whenever I have the opportunity.

We came back the next day

In Italy, everyday restaurants serve memorable meals, but event the fanciest places in the US struggle. This restaurant is the exception: it presents wonderful food with a natural simplicity. It is, for sure, a little pricey, but you could pay far more at other places and get far less in quality. We stumbled upon it in a rush one day and ate there the next day as well. We would have come back the next two days if they had been open for lunch on weekends. First day we had a grilled fish special, a pasta that was both meaty and light, and a seafood risotto that was perfect. The next day we had spinach for an appetizer, a prociutto antipasto, and lamb chops and pizza. The lamb chops were for my son, who enjoys lamb but would not usually comment, but who immediately said how wonderful they were. The pizza was the best we have had since Naples nearly 40 years ago, and better than any of the highly-touted NY pizzas these days, or even pizzas we have had recently in Italy. It had a thin crust that still managed to have some body and flavor, and to be both crisp and tender. Service was also extremely good, possibly because at lunch they were not very busy.

Great food but very much over priced

We were first time visitors to Ottimo's . We ordered a cocktail (good), had an appetizer proscutto and Parmigiano cheese with olives (excellent) but the cost was exaggerated at $40,-. Our main courses were Risotto ($35.00) and Tuna ($32.50)/ The wine list was excellent, but again very pricey. Cocktails were $10. and an espresso coffee was $4.50. Ido realize when you go out you expect to pay a bit more in Manhattan. However, I have eaten in some very fine restaurants, Ottimo incluled, However, I can sum this up by saying, great food, good service but VERY Very overpriced.

    Lovely atmophere, disappointing food

I was psyched about this place-- all the reviews said authentic italian cuisine. This stuff may be authentic, but it's not very good. The risotto was disappointing, it tasted like it was made with a grainy, wild rice. Far from the velvety, cheesy dish I'm used to (try Aquaterra for the best risotto). The bruchetta was excellent, made with cherry tomatoes and oh-so-fresh mozz. The spinach was way too salty but great for garlic-lovers. I ordered the veal medallions and it was ok... just ok. The tomato sauce was watery but the potatoes were good, homefries style, crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside. The wine list was good, and the other people in my party were satisfied with their meals (thanks for the veal chop recommendation!), but for the price, I won't be returning.

    A disappointment

Undersized insalata caprese for the price and much more cheese than tomato. Tough and small veal for the price and for the taste. Drowning in sauce. My colleague loved her veal chop. Take your chances. I will not return.

    Excellente

I went with my lover celebrating our anniversary and ever since then we go there at least once a week. It is a very authentic restaurant on a quiet street. The waiters are wonderful and the service is fantastic. I cant say enough about the food. We had the spinach salad, followed by the red snapper it was delicious. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who would like a nice quiet and pleasant atmosphere.
