I was really excited about this place when it opened, but did not try it because of the high prices. Luckily for me, GrouponNow offered a half-off deal so I finally stopped by. The store is new so it was nice-looking and clean. The woman behind the counter was nice and very helpful. I tried the Vietnamese banh mi, the sweet potato chiplets, and the gingerbread cake. The banh mi was so disappointing. There was too much onion, the tofu was flavorless, the mint was wispy and felt old, and the pickled radishes were limp and bland and tasted old. The cake had a lovely spicy flavor of ginger but was a little dry for my taste. The highlight of the meal was the sweet potato chiplets, which must have been cooked to order because they were hot, fresh (even after walking two avenues in the freezing cold), crispy and delicious. I also got the guacamole and it was fresh and delicious (on par with Chiplotle) but would have been much better if it had less onion. I will not go back, especially not with their high prices. I can buy much tastier vegetarian food elsewhere, and for cheaper.

While the food is pretty good, do not order delivery from them. They have the slowest delivery imaginable-- even though they say it will be 15-30 minutes, be prepared to wait 45-60. This has happened multiple times now, and I guarantee I won't be making that mistake again. After calling the restaurant to complain, I got a lame excuse about how the delivery guys were being sent in many different directions today because it was busy and that was why I still hadn't received my food. According to them, my order had just come out and 20 minutes later I am still waiting for it. How much do you want to be bet it will be cold when I finally get it?

I love the Tex-Mex Burger. The sweet potato chips and cous cous salad are tasty. Have also enjoyed the vegetable biryani. Not crazy about the noodle dishes or burritos b/c servings are tiny. Tacos were pretty good but much smaller serving than Chipolte for about the same price. Choc-o-cake is very good.

Exceptional service, decadent food and a fabulous concept- executed to perfection. Really loved this place, would definately recommend to non-vegans as well- can't say enough great things about Otarian, LOVED IT!

If the stuff is all sourced locally you'd expect more, soul or something. Really didn't satisfy, but wouldn't rule out going again. Fountain drinks were a rip off too.

Otarian in Bleecker Street : very good food ,nice place ,friendly service.Being vegan,we think that the idea of showing through a simple video the chain of food is great!far for make feel people ' guilty' it helps to become conscious of our habits ,while eating good food gives immediatetly the prove of how easy and healthy can be to take care about animals, planet ,people, health.,the only possible future!.Also it's a good idea to propose a place that is not properly a 'restaurant' in the common sense, so that anybody especially if not veg can get information and good fodd without 'planning' a 'special' dinner.Everybody should try Otarian ! thanks! laura from Italy
