OK food, too loud
I went to this restaurant yesterday for a business lunch after reading the reviews here. We got the monk fish special and seafood pasta, which were ok by mid-town Italian restaurants' standard in the price range (seafood pasta was around $22, which is average). Monk fish had too much spice on it and the seafood pasta was blend but wasn't fishy. The biggest drawback was the noise. Our lunch was from 1 - 2pm. The place wasn't packed but the noise from other customers was so loud, I could bearly hear my coworker sitting right next to me. No one particular customer was loud, and everyone was carrying on normal conversation. It must have been the setup on the second floor that looks over the first floor. Service was decent, except that they did not put in my reservation into the system even though I called the day before to confirm. It wasn't too much of a problem since my coworkers waited for the client to arrive downstairs in case the wait staff couldn't give him the right table. I will not go back for business or personal lunch.

A Show Stopper
This restaurant is a wonderful pte-theater choice. Food and service great. Not too noisy. Great value.

Not the greatest Italian place in the Theater District
A friend suggested this place and we all three had dreadful meals. Mine was the worst -- the special of the day -- a 1/4" veal chop breaded with dressed salad on top. usually one of my favorite dishes. The veal was so thin and dried out and oily, it was uncuttable forget eatable. It was also cold. Alll for $32. My friends' fish dishes were small and tasteless. The place totally capitalizes on location. This place is a tourist trap. Really atrocious food -- sweet waiters but inedible fare. Thank god the play was great.

Will NOT return
Food was OK but overpriced. Drinks were stingy. Service persons were arrogant and unpleasant. It was a dispoointing experience. We will NOT return.

food good service not so much
As other reviewers have said, the food is quite good and well priced, especially for the neighborhood. Baked eggplant appetizer special was delicious, as was the grilled squid a difficult dish to do properly. But the service was amateurish at best! Water and bread very slow to come wine never poured by the waiter coffee not refilled no checking in to see if all was ok dishes repeatedly served to the wrong party at the table an attempt to bus the whole table before the main course was served, etc.etc. Waiter was friendly but did absolutely nothing besides take the order and bring the check. Clearly the room needs a manager no one was watching what was going on. BTW, this was at 8:30 PM on 12/20 not pre theatre. Restaurant was busy but not overwhelmed. Too bad because a good kitchen is being sabotaged by the service.

A good place to eat
My boyfriend and I went before our theater show. We had bruschetta and a caprese salad (which was not on the menu but they were nice enough to make for us) for appetizers, both were very good. He had lasagna and I had linguine with seafood. I enjoyed mine, he thought his was good. We also had a bottle of wine. For dessert he had a chocolate mousse and I had flan with raspberry sauce. We both liked our dessert. For all that, our bill was around $115, which was pretty much what we were expecting. We had a nice corner table in the back. The main complaint would be that it was pretty cramped in there. Otherwise, the food was good, the service was great, and the atmosphere nice.

Solid Italian
Just had dinner for six here last night. Very attentive service all around. Good, solid, and very tasty food. As other reviewers mention, not the best Italian in the city, but an all-around good value and experience. A note to locals...go after theater time and it will be less crowded and noisy. The atmosphere changed from "I can't hear you" to a pleasant and lively din in under 15 minutes as the theater crowd scrambled out.
