    What More do You Want?

If you don't like Osso Buco, or if you think it's just OK, you're impossible to please. Actually, I'm impossible to please, and I love it. So anyone giving this place a 3 and a half star rating (which is its present average) is a total joke. The food is delicious and totally fresh, the menu is great, the portions are generous, and the prices are low. I always get the chicken fiorentina (chicken w/ spinach and mushrooms in white wine/brown sauce) but I was recently seduced by the chicken marsala, and I might jump ship from now on. Their mixed green salad is amazing. The cream puffs are heavenly as is the lemon sorbet. This place is a New York jewel for those who appreciate fresh tasty Italian food. The low prices are just an unexpected bonus.

My favorite Italian restaurant in NYC

This is my favorite place for Italian in the city. If you get things family style the portions are huge and it's a great value. If not then it's still worth the more than median price. The staff here is well educated in Italian, wine and the food at the restaurant and they're always attentive and friendly. The waiter I have always remembers my favorite dishes and what wines I liked last time. The Ravioli Toscana is the best thing on the menu! Definitely go and bring your friends or a date.

good italian, esp for family gatherings

Osso Buco simply has good food. The plates are generous, the sauce is well-seasoned, and the meat is tender. I recently spent an evening there with a (very) large group, and the table was well attended to for a several course meal. The bussers were quick and unobtrusive, the atmosphere was unpretentious and didn't distract from the food, and we all had a wonderful time despite traveling in such large numbers. We were well accommodated. I've been there several times and always been happy with the food... servers in new york city are always an interesting variable, but if you can count on the food (and you definitely can at O.B., plus, it's always more fun to experience some of the characters this city has to offer!) you're in good shape. Thumbs up and we'll definitely be going back!

    Good flavor, strange service

I came here with 3 friends, 2 of whom were visiting from out of town. The food was on the good. The regular bread and butter were both cold, but the garlic bread was very yummy. My friend who ordered the lasagna liked it, but my friend who ordered the chicken Parmesan said the cheese was a little off. I really enjoyed my linguine toscana (meat sauce), and not only because they brought me a family-sized serving by mistake and I got to take home a ton of food for free. But, the service was odd...our waiter refused our attempts to order an appetizer before ordering our main courses, but then was very attentive afterwards.

Good food, but the service ...

Me and my boyfriend went there for dinner, and I don't know if it was just the waiter we had, but he was extremely nice to me and pretty much ignored my boyfriend, except for when he was taking his order. He would always ask me how the food was and if everything was all right, etc etc. I thought it was pretty odd and it miffed us quite a bit. But the service itself was pretty good, they had our food out pretty quickly and were pretty attentive. The food was good, not amazing, I've definitely had better Italian, but it was priced very well. I'd say overall, it was a really nice dinner if you don't count the fact that my boyfriend was sorely ignored.

    Helicopter Waiter

Osso Buco was recommended to us by a reliable source who had been there for a bachelor party. I'm not blaming him, but MAN...our waiter was not good. Sat down with my pal, ordered glasses of wine, and got down to the business of catching up. THREE different men came over to see if we were ready to order, despite the fact that we'd arrived all of 8 minutes prior and had opened our menus after the first query. We were constantly aware that they were looking over or hovering nearby never indicates good things for the experience to come. We ordered fried zucchini to share (it was, actually, fabulous), more wine, and an order each of linguine vongole and chicken parm. Extremely quick delivery leads me to believe that nothing is *exactly* cooked to order...when my friend asked for clean smaller plates, the waiter sniffed that he didn't realize we'd intended to share and quickly busied himself DIVIDING UP OUR FOOD FOR US. Absolutely not allowed! No! Never! We tried to dissuade him, to no avail. My friend was laughing so hard she had to excuse herself and go to the bathroom, leaving me with the waiter, his hands all over my dinner. After a hundred, "thank you, we can do it, really, really, really"s he finally left in a huff, only to helicopter around behind us for the remainder of the meal. $90 later, we were through, and it was time to pay the check. He put it down for TWO SECONDS, walked away, returned, picked it up, and GLARED at us because we hadn't yet paid. Seriously? I'm ashamed to admit that I left the guy a 20% tip *JUST* to avoid having to ask for change. I wanted it to end. End end end. Sidenote? The food wasn't anything special AT ALL. Edible, sure, and the clams were shucked, which I always appreciate...but the red sauce was a little off and our dessert Napoleon wasn't actually a Napoleon at all. Ugh.
