Best Sandwich in NYC - Celebs Agree
I live on the Upper East and Work in Mid-Town West and I STILL travel all the way down to the West Village on a monthly basis to go to TOSS (The Original Sandwich Shoppe). It is by far the best sandwich in the area. The staff is always friendly and they make a fantastic sandwich. I particularly like the turkey with Brie and herbal mayo. Delicious. The prices are pretty standard and the atmosphere isn't fabulous, but overall it's a great lunch spot. The celebs love it too - many have signed post cards including Anne Hathaway. Not too shabby.

A Bodega Sandwich is Better
My past dining experiences with the Original Sandwich Shoppe have been decent, but nothing to write home about. Their sandwiches are a step up from your average bodega. I now know to NEVER ORDER from here. I placed an order through Seamless and it took an hour and 20 minutes to be delivered 4 blocks. When it arrived, the coffee I had ordered spilled all over the sandwich, leaving it absolutely inedible. When I called to complain they were unapologetic, said it would take over an hour to deliver a new one, told me to call Seamless and then rudely hung-up. Starving, I took a bite of the roasted turkey, packed in the middle, the one thing that didn't get covered by coffee. It tasted like it was leftover from Thanksgiving; so FOUL I spit it out immediately. Next time you want a subpar to average sandwich go to your nearest bodega.

Great sandwiches!
In an area where it's tough to find an easy take out sandwich shop, this place does it with flying colors. The fresh turkey sandwich, with your choice of dark/white turkey or a combo of both is out of this world. It's quick, they treat you right and best of all it tastes great. If your in the mood for deli sandwich this is the place to go.

delicious sandwiches that does the job
A good place to go if you're looking for good normal food that's so hard to find in the city nowadays. Although it seems a little pricey at first for a sandwich, it's worth it since the ingredients are fresh/gourmet and stuff you would use for your family. The portion is also enough to hit the spot. Plus like another reviewer said, the herb mayo spread is great! Make sure to get it. It completes the sandwich.

Delicious!
How is this place not reviewed? it's great! Probably the best Italian hero I've ever had, and made with more love and anywhere I've ever seen. The herb mayo is a must on any sandwich, as are the marinated red onions. Turkey is sometimes dry, but that's easily remedied by the aforementioned herb mayo.
