I ate at Orchid today, and the quality of food, service, and new decor were all great. In that part of town, there is no other food with such intense flavor. Now that the original cook is back the food is really solid. There is also a cool happy hour, and the heat is BACK in the jerk pork, chicken, etc. Give it a try--this place is the real deal!

ordered oxtail and jerk chicken. it was pricey but thought would give it a try and regret it. wasted $38 . the worst jerk chicken i've ever had and i've had quiet few, oxtail was ok. even rice very far from carribean. would not recommend to anyone. Waitress was very friendly and helpful though.

I saw the reviews and decided to give it a shot, my BF is Jamaican and when he goes away on business I long for some carribean food! called for a delivery, they put me on hold for a bit, then a new person took my info, and "was not sure" if plantains were in my food, like the webshows. food took a while to get here, and when it did the rudest guy with an attitude plops my food onto the reception desk and asks me for his tip before i even got up to him!! what? gave him his tip he stalked away and i took my food to my desk food is good, i got the spicey jerk pork w rice and peas - very stingy w the pork, VERY small portion, put over a mound of rice to make it look like something was there. and side of plantains - which for $4 was very small - food was a bit spicey but other than that it was pretty damn good, best plantains I have had in theatre district, and rice - which was perfect texture and seasonings (sometimes mushy and waay to salty around my home) so anywho food was good, although a bit skinpy. service not pleasurable, or courteous, will not order with them again. I just really thought the delivery guy was rude and I am not interested in getting any more of my meals from him.

Sorry to the last reviewer - hell, make that ALL the naysayers. This place is excellent! I went for dinner recently and left very impressed. The cod fritters with Tamarind sauce were light and delicious. The sauce was a nice sweet accent and did not bury the fritters, which highlighted how well fried (crispy, not soggy) they were. The Jerk Pork dinner was "tuh die fuh". The pork had the right level of Jerk kick, but was not overwhelming, and it came with A+ rice with smoked pork (moist and delicious), perfect plantains, and a small warm cabbage salad. As a side, I ordered the Mac & Cheese. This was not the pudding like kind I expected you often see with rice & peas - it was a looser, spicier version not immersed with goopy cheese but nonetheless cheesy and delicious. Top all this off with cute atmosphere and friendly service and you have a winner! I plan to go back.

What planet are some of these reviewers from??? I have eaten here at least 6 different times...I wanted to love it...I wanted it to be great...but it just is not. The owner is certainly friendly but the service is s-l-o-w...and that includes getting just a glass of water! I can't figure out who they are holding tables for because every time we tried to sit down we were told "that's reserved" yet no one EVER came in - EVER. Also, once we ordered crab cakes to start and were told they only had one crab cake left in the place....what??? I can't say I'm a fan of being served my meals on a paper plate but if at least the food was great I wouldn't have minded. There have even been times when they just don't open....no explanation...just closed. No, sorry...this orchid is wilted.

Just like mom used to make! I am addicted to the Jerk Chicken Wings and Jerk Shrimp. It IS super spicy and not for the faint of heart.
