Absolutely disappointing experience
A friend and I stopped by to eat here after noticing the ambiance of the restaurant. The service was ridiculous. There were about four other diners around us, and it was almost like we didn't exist. No one came to speak to us in the wide open restaurant for about 15 minutes, then we finally got water. My friend started withh the goat cheese salad which was pretty good, only when she was done, our entire table was cleared(i mean placemats and all) as if we were leaving. I noticed the waitress arguing with the busboy nearby to reset us because we hadnt gotten our main courses yet. It took 40 minutes to get our entrees. 40. Once we got them we were ignored again until we had to go find the server for a check. My $40 steak suddenly seemed completely overpriced with the treatment that came along with it.

overpriced refills
Opia is in a convenient location to midtown for both east siders and west siders BUT it is a bit over priced in my opinion. sodas are $5 each and they even charge for refills. we ordered a basket of fries which tasted decent but were also over priced. also there are VERY few vegetarian or health options if you are into that. the ambiance is decent ~ there are two tables in case you want to sit outside, but otherwise you are stuck in the very dim lighting of the indoor restaurant. the service was pretty good overall.

The Place that Can't Decide
I had never been to Opia before and granted they are undergoing renovations, however, it just seemed so confused. The had a big screen T.V. for watching basketball, very loud 80's music (which I like but not that loud during dinner.) The music was so loud that my friends and I couldn't hear each other and it made having a conversation difficult. They also had a large party going on in the back. So I'd like to ask Opia - are you a lounge, a nice restaurant, a sports' bar, or a catering hall? We also had to wait for 40 minutes for dessert, which the manager did comp for us, but the service wasn't all that wonderful. The steak I have to say was very good, but I doubt I'll go back. It was just too loud and I've found in really loud places it's even hard for the waitstaff to hear the customers, so they make frequent mistakes. Hope this helps.

Poor service, unattentive staff
Things that were missing - 1. Plates for bread 2. Coffee 3. Napkins 4. Salt/Pepper 5. Worthwhile food The waiter never came by and ignored us when we called him. Will not be coming back.

Suprised, in a Good Way
Opia has always had a mixed reputation, Euro, Rude, Hip etc. I had not been in years and was reluctant to meet my friend there recently. I have to say I had an excellent meal. Great Wild Mushroom (Chanterelle?) Soup, Hanger Steak, Sole. Very nice deserts. Reasonably priced. Service is a little loose, but well meaning and sweet. The hotel is under construction, which is a little off putting. Pleasantly surprised.

I didn't expect this
Cute juliet balcony and all but the food is just terrible. They couldn't even get pasta right. Never again.

Mixed...
I have always loved this place. I recently put a brunch together for 6 of my friends. We were having a great time enjoying our bellinis until the waiter started inapproapriately commenting at everything we ordered and said. He was so rude that we had to complain. I've never seen anything like it in my life. The mgr felt terrible b/c we were so upset at how we were treated she sent out delicious desserts for us and some wine which made up for it, but I hope they fired that waiter.
