One If By Land, Two If By Sea

This is by far the most romantic place my husband and I have found in the city. The candlelight, live piano music, tuxedoed waiters, and intimate tables are just perfect for anniversary dinners or special occasions. The menu changes every season, and as it's pre fixe, I would recommend checking ahead of time that what's on it appeals to you. We have been there quite a few times over the years, and every time is as good as before.

I love this place! The first time I went everything was perfect, the food, the staff and the location and building are really neat. During my last visit, I must admit the food was good, but much less...something. It didn't have the over the top quality I expect at a place like this and at the prices you have to pay. I would have to concur from my last experience that perhaps the other gentleman was correct about spices and preparation. It was only one visit, but I am not so financially set as to dine at these prices regularly. I expect when I do that the food is up to par with my "investment". But it was only one visit. the other times I have been there was excellent all the way around. And thus far, the resteraunt and staff have always met expectations. I will return again.

My girlfriend and I went here after reading all the reviews. The place definitely has a vintage atmosphere to it (if I can call it that!). With a big chandelier and old paintings. The food was actually pretty good, I'm usually hesistant about gourmet places with tiny portions but the food was excellent, I could actually taste all the ingredients in my meal which is good sign of well prepared meals. But by far the service was great. The hostess and the waitstaff ensured a homely free at such a public place.

I went with my aunt for restaurant week. The service is impeccable. From the time that we arrived to the time that we left, the staff is very attentive. We ordered from the restaurant week menu. The cobia fillet was delicious it's a light fish and is seasoned well. I recommend the watermelon salad for dessert. It's quite refreshing and cleanses the palate. I would love to go back!

One if by Land was one of the BEST dining experiences I've had in NYC. The service was impeccable, the food tasted fresh and was very delicious and the atmosphere is romantic, but not overdone. I had the heirloom tomato salad and the grilled Bavette steak. Although the portions are smaller than at other places of this caliber, the food tastes so much better. I would recommend this as a romantic dinner place.

I went to OIBL with low Restaurant Week expectations. To my surprise and pleasure, my friends and I emerged from dinner with that feeling you get from being well fed and well taken care of. The portions were reasonable and the selections were diverse and really popped with each bite. A winner!

We went tonight. I was there 2 years ago and loved it, but very different experience this time. The food was bland and completely unseasoned...unacceptable for a restaurant of this supposed quality. The sauces were good but the meat was not even salted or peppered...none. It is not just my perception. I saw the couple at the table 2 away from us also request a salt shaker! The linguine was completely unseasoned...except for the mint or other large herb shreds, but lacked any seasoning...just dressed in oil! I doubt the chef even tasted it be fore the service! The hanger steak arrived well done even though I requested rare to medium-rare! The error was corrected but again, completely unseasoned. There is a reason there is NO salt shaker on the tables...at a restaurant like this the food should arrive perfectly seasoned! I know already that the portions are tiny and I accept that but I expect exceptional food.
