Romantic
Nice setting but the food quality was not what was expected. Rack of Lamb was a bone with 3 pieces of lamb, Give me the Rack.. They seem more into a pretty plate than flavor and quality. Upstairs room a/c unit made noise which took away from atmosphere.

Poor food quality, small portions.
We went during July restaurant week and were beyond disappointed. We were seated 30 min after our reservation. To keep people waiting more than 15 min. past their reservation at a fine dining restaurant at least warrants a complimentary drink. Then, the wait for gazpacho was 30 min. The wait for the small sample of tasteless fish was another 25-30 min after we finished the appetizer. The tart mushroom filling had a saltiness better suited for its main job as the flavoring in the beef wellington, rather than moonlighting as our appetizer. Most disappointing was the finish. First, an awkwardly flavored blueberry composition. Then, stale popcorn was sprinkled over a dish we were mistakenly served instead of the nutella dessert we requested. All in all, poor food quality, lengthy wait, and unreasonably small portions make this spot a poor choice. At least their waitstaff was friendly if stingy/inattentive with the bread.

Wonderful evening
My wife and I went here for our wedding anniversary. The waiters remembered this from the reservation, put Happy Anniversary on our desert and were very nice. The food was excellent and very creative. We got there before 6:45 so we got the Theatre menu for $45 per person.

A NY Classic
If you want a top notch, elegant, romantic spot, this is it. If you are going to complain dinner lasted too long or portions weren't comparable to the price, you are in the wrong place. Plain and simple. The townhouse is gorgeous. The Beef Wellington is the best in the city. The service is superb. Anyone who tells you otherwise shouldn't be permitted to write reviews... anywhere.

Great for a special occasion
Although quite expensive for a mid-week meal, if you are looking for a great meal in a quiet, romatic atmosphere, this is the perfect place. Our food was cooked to perfection and I can honestly say, I had absolutely no complaints (which is odd for me). The service was decent, not as attentive as I would have normally liked, but sufficient. The live piano music was definitely a nice touch.

Disappointing experience
Great, very romantic atmosphere, but food and staff attitude are disappointing. After having waited for 45-50 min for appetizers, I asked for a manager, who came and said that we've only been waiting for 40 min and this is normal. Then, the duck breast entree came overcooked (I asked for "medium rare, closer to rare", but it came perfect medium). After the dinner, I complained to the manager, and she said that it was not true and that she could care less if we ever came back. Can you imagine that attitude? As West Villagers, we have a great choice in terms of restaurants nearby and we swear to NEVER come back.

Disappointing!
Great atmosphere. OK service, but not great service. I don't mind paying for great food, but the food wasn't even good. The arctic char had a funny taste and the rare duck was tough. The 'upside down pineapple cake' dessert would have been good if the cake didn't taste like it was several days old. Very disappointing!!
