Went there with a group of friends yesterday. Was disappointed. Reasons: i) Service; all the wait staff was surly. There were no welcoming smiles and tones of attitude. The waiters need to be trained on how to place plates in front of patrons...rather than pushing past them without an 'excuse me'. They kept on asking us if we were ready to pay and hovering by the table as we sorted out the bill. ii) Food was unappetizing. My risotto was just thrown on to the plate, with a green sauce on the edges. Beef wellington my friend had was disappointing and the short ribs too powerfully flavoured With an average of of $140 per person, most disappointing meal I have had in NYC.

    Best appetizers

We sat at the bar, while waiting for a table. It was so pleasant, we ate at the bar and had the finest young bartender at our service. She made us feel so welcomed, that we stayed for an extra cocktail. Go there and have a few appetizers at the bar and you might just stay there!

    Just ok, pleasant

I probably would have never made it to this restaurant if ScoutMob had not had a coupon for it. Not because I don't spend money on eating out, far from it, but because over the years the reviews have decreased and I'd rather spend my money elsewhere. The restaurant is still attractive and cute, especially the bar area. In fact, I'd say the bar area is the most romantic area of the restaurant. We were seated promptly on the upper level. Our waiter was surly to say the least, which was not at all what I expected from this restaurant. I have to say the food was better than what I expected. However, for such a "fancy" restaurant the women's bathroom was subpar. I think for a romantic meal or special occasion there are much better places in the city.

    Wonderful evening

Lived in the area for many years and was not excited by the food or service, mind you, at least ten years have passed. Dinner last week was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've had for some time--the food was timely, hot and delicious. The service was professional but not pretentious or stiff. Our server made the evening special. Enjoy

Not enough variety in brunch menu

Let's begin by stating that I'm allergic to nuts and do not eat eggs. Unfortunately, that limits my brunch menu choices at OIBLTIBS to about 3 items. I ordered one of those--the pork and cheese panini. You'd have needed a search party to find the pork so it turned out to be a tasteless grilled cheese sandwich. But that was the only negative. The restaurant is a beautiful and relaxing venue. The service--from the hostess to the waitress and busboys--could not have been better. The starter plate of breads and jam were fresh and delicious. The jazz music was delightful. And I even received a complimentary ice cream dessert. But at $25 per without a drink, there should be a wider variety of menu items from which to choose.

What a disappointing experience! I went here with my girlfriend for our anniversary because of its stellar reputation. We were seated promptly, but what came next was nothing short of a complete debacle. To keep this short, (1) food was mediocre, (2) waiter forgot our entrees and began to serve us dessert after appetizers, (3) service was breathtakingly slow, (4) my parents asked them to offer us a bottle of wine of our choice and they flat out forgot, and (5) we thought the waiter quit at least twice during the service, and we had to go track him down for our bill at the end. This is the most romantic restaurant in the city like Schinder's List turns women on.

    Rude Hostess

I came into the restaurant about 2 hours before my reservation time to talk to the hostess about getting a window seat. It was Wednesday and the place was empty so she said it would be no problem when I came back. When I arrived with my date on time at 8pm she pretended like she didn't know me even though I mentioned our earlier conversation. Then she sat us in the middle of the room. I can understand if they have a policy about not saving tables, but she didn't mention that earlier, made no apology about it when I came back, and pretended to be oblivious. While overpriced, the food and wait service were otherwise great. But why would they put up with staff that treats patrons that way?
