I loved the food and the "old" atmosphere. What a great place to come to. There are few placed in Manhattan that you can eat well for a reasonable fee and feel relaxed and at home while dining out.

We came in at 6:25 and needed to get to a 7:30 performance at Lincoln Center. I ordered a grilled salmon sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries that I shared with my spouse who ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. We got our food which was presented well, tho the fries were a little greasy, and everything was very good. We even had time to share a homemade rice pudding, which hit the spot. I would recemmend this place for a quick meal anytime. BTW, the bathrooms were very clean.

I work across the street from Old Johns and I love it. The service is so friendly, and the decor is truly authentic diner-style. I can't understand the other reviews--Old Johns is a sweet neighborhood place with very fresh food. The ingredients are all top of the line. I reccomend that you give it a try!

This place has totally had it. The atmosphere is so tacky it's not even kitch and the food is basic, boring and poorly prepared...even though the prices are reasonable. Even eggs toast and coffee were weak.

We used to go for dinner from time to time before Lincoln Center and had fallen in love with their meat loaf which was delicious (other things were not so good). I don't know if there has been a change in the kitchen but the meat loaf is now just plain ordinary. Their prices are above normal diner prices but the food no longer is, so I agree with the previous reviewer that there are better options in the neighborhood.

I live in a building next to old johns, and i never go there because i find the food thouroughly sub-par. I have eaten there twice and both times i have been disappointed. The fries are NOT good - they are soggy and have little to no taste. The sweet potato fries are also not good - they are burnt, lack salt and have absolutely no depth of flavor. I have eaten a chicken dish there (i cannot remember exactly what it was) and the chicken was fairly flavorless and dry. on top of all that, it was all overpriced. I cannot fathom who rated this restaurant highly. It is beyond my comprehension. If you are in the area, and you want food, there are plenty of better options

Sweet potato fries might have been better if they were more well-done. Food was not bad, but I thought it was a bit overpriced. Try the chili, it's pretty tasty. This is your regular diner food experience with regular high NYC prices.
