Great steak, poor attitude
The food was great. We ordered every thing on the menu appetizers, steak, seafood, lamb, eight different bottles of wine. However, the waiter and the bus boy managed to spill wine, water, seafood on different people of our party without an apology. We had to ask for simple things like napkins that come standard at similar establishments.

Great Steak
My friends and I are big steak eaters and we decided to try the Old Homestead Steakhouse instead of my typical haunt, Peter Lugers. While Lugars has amazing steak, the atmosphere is not good. The appetizers were excellent and my 32 oz. rib-eye was amazing and cooked to perfection. If you decide to go make sure you have an empty stomach because the portions are huge. The waiters however need help. Ours kept joining our conversation and was rather rude. We found ourselves wishing our bus boy was our waiter. By the way, the chocolate cheese cake was also great.

So so
Been twice. While cuts looked fantastic and were prepared correct, the meat simply lacked flavor. Great garlic bread and tator-tots. Interior does little to reflect it's roots as a Manhattan main-stay.

Steaks are not cooked as requested
Went for a spontaneous dinner here last night. Overall most aspects of the place were 'ok' including service, pricing, atmosphere (acceptable for a steakhouse) except for one inexcusable factor: they don't seem capable of cooking a steak to your liking. In my party of six there were 2 filets and 3 sirloins ordered. These were ordered anywhere from med-well to rare but guess what? Every single steak arrived exactly the same!? They were all pretty much med-rare no matter what you ordered. What's worse is that the waiter almost seemed to anticipate this asking everyone to cut through the mid-point of their steaks as soon as they arrived to "check" them. A steakhouse is all about the steak. If they can't produce your steak per your instructions they should not be in the business.

Old and Tired
The most important factor that determines the quality of a steakhouse is the time between grill and table. At Lugers in Brooklyn waitstaff can be fired on the spot for lingering. This is not the case here as my porterhouse arrived only warm to the touch. Another party at my table sent back their steak twice to get it done medium well. The bus staff must have been on vacation as our party spent half the evening staring at dirty plates and empty glasses. Desserts were good however.

Steak overcooked
Went to old homestead for the first time. For the record I love steak and love to eat. My experience with the apps were amazing - I went with a large party so we had so much of everything. Fortunately I was full when my steak came out, because my Medium Rare Filet was Medium Well at best and charred on the outside. I really wanted that sirloin in the cream sauce but also a filet so I combined. This seemed like the best thing in the world - but it got ruined. Ill give it a second chance only because it was a large party and i didnt pay the bill (and the apps were really amazing).

It was just okay...
We ate here last night and have to say I was a little disappointed. The restaurant itself is great...very much a "men's club" and what you'd expect from a top notch steakhouse. The service was poor. We even had to ask to see a menu because the waiter never thought to bring one over. I was really surprised. The breadstick appetizer was the best! Very original and tasty. The Carpaccio was excellent as were the Ceasar and iceburg salads. Drinks were a little weak though so stick to wine. I had their signature 30+ ounce steak, ordered it medium rare and it came out charred and medium. Another at our table had the same experience. At $39 a pop, they could have definitely done better. The Prime Rib, however was excellent. Given we spent almost $300 for 3 people (and that included only 3 cocktails), I was really disappointed. I've definitely had better experiences for less money.
