Went on 2-20-10 for a friends birthday with another couple. The waiter was not friendly as if he was doing us a favor by taking our order. My steak was over done and my friends was under done. When her steak went back to be corrected the no accomidation was made to keep the sides warm. It is a no frills steak house with high prices.

Food was awesome, and the service was really great. Biggest steak I have ever had and by far the tastiest. Highly recomended for yourself as a treat. Enjoy!!!

Albeit we came on New Year's Eve but perhaps they shouldn't have taken our reservation. We got there 10 minutes before our reserved time and were seated 40 minutes later. Over an hour later, we finally got our food served lukewarm. I would be willing to give it another chance, but at those prices, I would rather go to Mark Joseph on Water Street.

Listen, it's great food but there's 20 other amazing steak places in the city. The service is comical. The prices are what they are - for some reason it was decided steaks are $50 in the city and the restaurants are still packed. It's fine for groups of guys but don't bring a date to this one.

my husband and i wandered into this joint not knowing quite what to expect. it was sat early evening and we were shopping for our new apartment all day... we ordered chopped salad and farmer market burger sans bread (from the cafe menu). both were super delicious. it is quite amazing as the burger platter also comes with its own salad, yet they made sure two sets of greens are seasoned differently yet both mouth watering. the burger is of medium build with real chopped meat seasoned to perfection, not the junk you find in other lower caliber burgers. the onion ring that we ordered on the side is divine, not to mention their home made spicy ketch-up. we had a blast, finished every tibbit of the food. then came the dessert which we are still savoring 5 hours later. what a beautiful feast, and it does not cost a fortune! and it is very good people watching spot if you sat outside.

I have not been to the Old Homestead Restaurant in over 20 years, and when a friend recently suggested that we go there (because he was so in the mood for a steak dinner) I scanned the reviews on MenuPages.com, and was slightly concerned because although there were many favorable reviews, there were also many negative reviews, criticizing everything from poor service, inattentive waitstaff, expensive but mediocre food, etc. Well, my experience was totally positive. The waitstaff was incredibly friendly and very attentive; not overly-intrusive but definitely making sure that we were satisfied throughout our meal, etc. And the food was wonderful. Nice-sized delicious portions, including the somewhat pricey vegetable side dishes.

If you are really into good steak, this is the place to go.... but if you like excellent service this is not the best. Waiting time for food to be served was too long ....you had to be constantly asking for water refills and that sort of things.. But once again food was great..
