I am a reguler @ old homestead
I been comming to the old Homestead steak house for about five years now and its something that I crave for every now and then. What prompted me to write a review was all the really wrong reviews about this steak house. If you believe the negative reviews your missing out on good foood and good service. The only cut I order is the gothem rib-eye steak cooked to medium and I crave it every now and then. I have eaten the coby burger there but its not good there. I have eaten Koby meet and you could never say a bad thing about koby beef, its like amazing. I love Old homestead, so recommend it.

Not recommended
Just had bachelor party dinner here on Saturday night with a 9:30 pm reservation and the staff made my party of 15 wait around until finally seating us at 11:30 pm! Horrible experience. Steaks are good but there are many, many other better steak houses in the city. The staff was horrible, from the 2 hosts to the waiters. Avoid this overpriced landmark.

Don't go here for a group reservation
We had reservations for a party of 12. We ended up waiting nearly 2 hours. Would have left, but the staff kept on saying 15 minutes. Very unprofessional. Otherwise, food was good, but definitely never go here for a big group event.

Avoid
My husband and I are big NYC diners and entertain often. We went here Saturday to celebrate our 1st Wedding Anniversary and had the worst dining experience. We waited 20 minutes for menus, the service was horrible and the food was just ok. Very different from how it used to be. Ambience was non-existant (it reminded me of Friday's) and had a lot of non descript tourists. This place is no longer a NY staple, it was amateur hour. The manager tried to fix things but a round of drinks wasn't going to help.

interesting...
My boyfriend and I were excited to try the much-publicized "Japanese kobe beef" which was supposedly recently added to their lunch menu, but as we placed our order, we were then informed that there was some mad cow disease that contaminated cattle from Japan, so there was a beef importing ban for about 8 months now; only American kobe was being served. No one informed us about this when I called to ask if they had the Japanese kobe special lunch-- the "American" burger was tasty and the meat very good quality, but we were a little disappointed it wasn't the real deal because that was what we were expecting. It was served on a regular bun, and did not include cheese. It came with tater tots & ceasars salad, and included a glass of wine. I would still say that it was well worth the $20. The truffle mac and cheese (side dish) was good too. Service was excellent as well. The only down side is that the restaurant had so many boisterous people who had a little too much to drink; they were extremely loud it felt like we were eating at a sports bar all the while. That was quite uncomfortable. But still worth the lunch deal. Just hope that the Japanese kobe would come back, although it probably would not be $20 any longer...

Don't waste your time or money
this place is not worth your time or money....there are plenty of other first class steak houses in nyc where you can pay upwards of $50 or more for an entree. our waiter literally disappeared halfway through our meal, with no explanation or anything. 45 minutes later we asked someone where he was - to which they responded, "well he's tired and has been working a double shift." fair enough. but when our meal was finally brought to us over an hour after we ordered, it was completely wrong and tasted like a steak from costco that was prepared in the microwave. management was apologetic and deducted some items from the bill, but overall it wasn't worth or time or money.
