The trick is to always order in
Overall, I'd say this place is fairly decent for a bakery/deli but nothing particularly special. For those of us who live near Columbia University the selection of bakeries is limited. For many years I'd walk in and wait on a long and disorganized 'line' and deal with snotty service. It's a three-ring circus in there. The secret is to simply pick up the phone and order in. Your order will arrive in about 10 minutes (often less time then you'd spend on line), and you get to avoid the ordeal of having to walk into the place.

Alright..
Food was alright, but the service was lacking. I must say though, they had the most delicious black and white bakery cookie I have ever tasted in my life.

don't be hatin on n&w
Maybe past reviewers haven't been around the block, but by manhattan standards, the service at n&w is the shizzle. And, I have never had to wait more than maybe two minutes for my order. (and I go at least once a day, every day) of course it will take longer if you aren't paying attention...

Horrid service
What is the deal with this place? There are always a lot of staff members behind the counter, but it takes forever to be served. I was one of two people waiting today at 2:15. It took TEN MINUTES to get a cup of coffee. "Wake up!" the nasty little server man told me when he finally handed me the coffee. He was angry that he had to get my attention to give me the cup. I will NEVER return. Where is the manager?

Pretty good food, really bad service
I'm really sick of people being rude, especially when all I want is egg salad on a bagel. Is that hard? The people here are extremely rude, sometimes incomprehensible, and always in a rush even if they're not busy. I recommend this place if you are in a rush and live in this area, otherwise the food's not worth the people or the expense.

Overpriced Mediocrity, Rude Staff
I went here for lunch and ordered for a friend & I. I accidentally did not order a combo sandwich by saying "combo #..." and they therefore charged me a few dollars more for the same turkey sandwich and didn't include the sides/drink. The cashier was extremely rude, the food was only okay, and I had to repeat my order to the counter workers three times only to get it confused three times. If you want quality food, good prices, and nicer staff go to Absolute Bagels just a few blocks south of this overpriced, mediocre and poorly staffed bagel shop.

Salad Bar a Must
The Salad Bar is great. A little over-priced, but everything is fresh and delicious. Unlimited toppings and your coice of greens and dressing. Get your "big salad" to go or stay and eat it there. It's always bustling around lunch time, so you may feel a bit rushed out of there, but if you go a little later, you'll see how quaint it can be.
