    What a Disappointment

Given the chef's reputation and all the hype about this restaurant, I was really looking forward to brunch at Nougatine. We arrived 10 minutes early and were told we could not be seated even though there were many empty tables. When we were seated and asked for drinks we were told they were out of the first one we wanted. Then they were out of the second one we wanted. No apologies and very pretentious attitude by the waiter. When we dared to ask for bread he looked at us like we were inconveniencing him. The Eggs Benedict were nothing special and the lox were extremely salty. So basically we paid a lot of money to be talked down to and to be fed mediocre food. Don't go.

Waited 30 minutes for a 1:45 rlunch reservation..and that was only the beginning. Service was abominable. No silverware after waiting 25 minutes for a first course. No bread until we asked and the main course came about 20 minuted after we finished our lackluster apps. The shrimp salad was worthy of any diner. The tuna tatare was cold and salty. The mains were very salty and very unexciting. When we finally complained to the manager he comped us a drink and brought us an assortment of desserts. Too late. We left the restaurant at 4:30 SHAME ON YOU JEAN-GEORGE! Bad kitchen and poorly trained staff made this place a real loser. DON'T GO

    I Guess It's Me...

I have indeed had the opportunity to dine in many fine establishments that I have enjoyed greatly, however, its been quite some time that I have had a "WOW!" experience! Just a wonderful birthday meal last night! My dining partner and I chose the Tasting Menu and we were NOT disappointed. The variety of courses, preparation, and presentation, were all "spot-on!" I suppose I'm not enough of a "foodie" to pick up on the completely unacceptable nuances that some of these negative critics experienced. Oh well... I guess... Anyway, we would recommend this resto. The service was terrific made more so by our server Dimitri/Dimitry (however ya spell it.) and I suppose our only complaint (LOL! poor restauranteurs...) is that the decor is a bit too stark for our liking. Too Bauhaus. A nice big floral arrangement would make the space even more welcoming. Other than that, we look forward to returning!

    What a disappointment.

I arrive on time for a 6 pm reservation. The place is half empty, but still, they try to sit me at the worst table in the place. Ugh. Getting off to a bad start. I order a Diet Coke - no lemon. The waiter brings my soda - with a lemon. He does the same thing the next two Cokes I order. They serve bread and butter. The bread is ordinary at best. The butter is cold - difficult to spread on the bread. Really, guys? They serve an amuse bouche. It's hot, which is odd. It tastes ... strange. It has corn in it, but the shape of the glass prohibits me from being able to actually get to the corn so it winds up sitting at the bottom of the glass. Appetizers are blah... Fried Calamari is... Fried Calamari - could've been in a third rate fish shack. The kale salad was basically a gigantic plate of shreaded kale. To give you an idea of the service: a piece of the kale fell onto the table. It remained there through the entire meal. The lobster was not identified as being fried, but it was - gigantic disappointment. It tasted like ... tempura batter. The pork chop was fine, if unimpressive. The butterscotch pudding was nasty. The description said it came with caramel sauce and flour de sel. There was no del and the sauce was unpleasant - like burnt liquid. And the place itself? I felt like I was in a corporate dining room (which, come to think of it, I was.) In sum, this place is boring, the food is sub-par and the service is shockingly poor for a "nice" restaurant. Do not go.

A truly good restaurant honors its reservations by not overbooking. We arrived a few minutes early for our 9 P.M. reservation. We were told it would be a few minutes. 15 minutes later I asked how much longer it would be. We were finally seated at 9:30 P.M. by the kitchen even though there were better tables available. Punishment for daring to ask how long we would have to wait for our reservation to be honored. A truly good restaurant would have been honest with me and told me they were running late and it would be awhile before we could be seated. They even would have offered a free drink for our time. As for the food, it was decent without being memorable and the service was a bit pretentious with the servers explaining each dish even though all the ingredients were already clearly listed on the menu. Finally, even though I had no alcohol and drank plenty of water during the meal, I awoke the next morning feeling dehydrated, a sign the food had been overly salted. Granted this was restaurant week. But if they did not wish to deal with the crowds, they should not have agreed to do restaurant week in the first place.

    Not So Great

I went here with my family of four after reading many very good reviews. I don't understand why the restaurant gets four stars for ambiance. The restaurant is just a restaurant, absolutely nothing special. I was greatly disappointed. The food is just o.k. While there I peeked into Jean-George. Expected to be impressed with that restaurant's decor, but sorry to say I wasn't. The food is just o.k. I would try other restaurants for the prices they charge.

    Best fois ever!

this restaurant is one of my favorites. I have never had a bad meal here. I have to point out though, that their fois gras is one of the best I have ever had. I just go sometimes and sit at the bar and order a glass of sencerre and order the fois gras. It is amazing!!
