I'm very surprised by the positive reviews below. I had lunch at Notaro. I had some veal with mushrooms and artichokes. It was accompanied by a small serving of pasta. The pasta and the sauce were good. But the breaded veal tasted like some cheap processed meat. The creme caramel was also very dissapointing. I've had better from supermarkets in France. Was it just a one-off bad day for the chef? Maybe, but the fact that they use such poor quality meat suggests they don't invest in good ingredients. The service was OK. The atmosphere was subdued and gloomy. Luckily I won't have to return there. There are so many outstanding Italian restaurants in NYC.

We knew nothing about this restaurant until we found it on the Internet and made a date to meet a friend there for the early dinner special -- 5 courses for 19.95, quite a value for Manhattan. Everything we ate was freshly made and delicious, except for the bland bread which lacked crispness and texture. But the atmosphere and service more than made up for that one failing. We heartily recommend Notaro to anyone seeking a memorable dining experience in the east 30's.

This place has one ofthe best deals and the employees treat the customers well. I had there price-fixed menu for 19.95. I got soup, salad, choice of main course, choice of dessert, and coffee or tea. They also have another one after 6:30 pm for 24.95 The food was wonderful and i will be going back soon
My Husband and I were just passing by and we happened to see this place. We entered and we were placed at a table in the back when i realized the fireplace. We entered at around 7 and it was the atmosphere we were looking for. That was just the beginning the service was wonderful and the food was just excellent. I had the fish sp (The Cod Fish sp) and i dont think it could any better then that. To top it all of the owner came to ask us how the food was and invited us for a drink. I recommend this place to anyone interested in good food and service.

As I entered the restaurant the environment appeared to be what I was looking for, quiet and intimate however things took a turn for the worse when the waiter approached the table. He seemed to be upset and gave me the feeling that he just didn't want to be there. The food was pretty good but I wasn't able to enjoy it because the waiter's frustrations were really getting to me.

The fettucini al amatriciana is unbelieveable. Also had the baby greens salad and the garlic bread and both were excellent. One of the best Italian places I have found.
