    Secret gem!

This restaurant provides impeccable service and the food was so delicious it melted in your mouth. The prix fixe dinner menu gives this place the two thumbs up. Can't wait to dine here again!

    Best kept secret!

From the first time I entered Notaro, I knew it was going to be a wonderful experience. Sometimes you just know. And I was not disappointed. The food is exceptional, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere unparalelled. The Antipasto, Carpaccio and thier entrees cannot be beat. The Mushroom Farfalle was absolutley amazing!

Price fixe is hard to beat

The other reviews are largely accurate. My wife and I had the prix fixe dinner there recently and found Notaro to be a very pleasant experience. For the first course I ordered the eggplant rollatine, which resembled manicotti with riccota and mozzarella. It was tasty as any cheese filled dish would be but the portion was small. My wife had the salad which was excellent with a very pleasing dressing. For the main course I had the basa fish fillet which was excellent in every way; she had the chicken scarpariello, which was good but the meat could have been more tender. Both dishes came with linguini in the same sauce as the dish itself. The pasta was perfect and the sauce also was excellent; the piccante sauce if not well done can often ruin dishes such as these, but not here. For dessert we had chocolate cake (nothing exceptional) and tiramisu. The tiramisu was the better choice as it was essentially chocolate cake with a flavorful topping. My only criticisms are that there were no vegetables present in any of the dishes (even the eggplant was scant). It is summer, so there is no reason for their exclusion. The grissini were fine but the bread was stale, which not unusual for restaurants, but a minor issue. Unfortunate for the bread itself was of high quality. Waiting time for the food prep was substantial, but that did not seem to be the fault of the waitstaff which is very attentive. The decor is pleasant enough, not ostentatious. The portions are ample, not huge, but you won't leave hungry either. The prix fixe is a good deal and is available until closing, which is not common and a welcome treat for those who dine late. I wouldn't say it is the best Italian food I've ever had but it is far above average and really quite good.

    great all around

I ate here with my parents from DC, because my dad loves using cupons and found a cupon for this place. i was totally skeptical but was we were all so suprised. we litterally did not leave ONE thing left on our plates. Pa got the filet minon special, mom got sea-bass, sister got mushroom ravioli special, i got gnocci.

    Exceptional

Excellent food for a reasonable price. Waiters are very attentive and work hard for their tip. Loved the chocolate cake. Delicious and wonderful. Will definitely come back.

    Beware of private parties

We had a reservation and were seated in the back of the restaurant, where we later noticed that there were several large tables of people making up a private party. There is no separate room or partition to accomodate a private party. The group became extremely loud and because of their size, the service to other tables became extremely slow. Before paying the check, we complained to the manager that we should have been informed about a private party in the dining room before being seated. There were no adjustments made to our bill and we were quite annoyed when we left. The food is rather pricey for Italian and nothing special for NYC.
