    poor service

I'm not sure why people are giving this place such good reviews. The food was pretty good, but the service and atmosphere were so poor that I have no reason to ever go back. We told the waitress that we were in a bit of a hurry because we were seeing a show, and she said she'd tell the kitchen, and yet it somehow still took over 30 minutes for our food to come. No apologies, either. The tables are so cramped together that my knees were hitting other people's knees at my table. It is very loud and uncomfortable. There is not much atmosphere besides loud and crowded. While I enjoyed the food, it was not good enough to warrant my coming back. There are enough better places to go in the theater district.

    So impressed!

Went here for brunch a bit ago and had my first socca. SO delicious! As was the artichoke frittata with pesto and whipped ricotta. Just thinking about it - makes me hungry. The staff was so helpful and attentive, the girl even gave me the recipe for the socca (although i absolutely cant make it anywhere near as good). I highly recommend this place - just know what to order (they also do a delicious pesto & yummy pizza). I cant vouch for anything else on the menu, but everything i've mentioned was superb.

    a nice discovery

one of the true beauties of new york city is being able to walk into any random restaurant on a whim and seeing what happens. that's what I did with Nizza. everything that happened was great. the pizza margherita was among the best i've tasted, and the chicken involtini was good enough to get me to actually go online and write this review. i definitely recommend this spot on 9th ave, be it before or after a Broadway show, or at any time. it's casual, but with a cool vibe. and the manager definitely knows his amaro! just ask rhys coiro (billy walsh from HBO's entourage) who was at the bar the same night I was there. pretty cool stuff.

    stay away!

So many decent restaurants in the neighborhood, save your time / money/ tastebuds by avoiding this one. Food was nondescript, to be kind. We had chicken (tough) and fettucine (soggy). Glass of wine was parsimonious. Service was perfunctory. Waitress did not even stop by to ask if all was o.k. (good for her, for we might have turned her ear). We returned a side vegetable dish as it was cold. It didn't come back to our table until meal was finished! All in all, we couldn't wait to leave this place.

    Nizza Nice

My friend and I stopped into Nizza last night after theatre, and we are so glad we did. Without a reservation, we were warmly greeted and quickly escorted to a window table. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was one of the best values I have experienced in a long time. Ample portions were nicely presented and very tasty. All thiis at very reasonable prices for midtown. Did I mention the sexy waiters? All in all, a very pleasant dining experience we will certainly return.

    I'd recommend this place...

I've been here a few times with my team from work. I've always had good, attentive service from really nice waiters. The food is yummy, especially for the prices which I think are very reasonable for Manhattan. BUT, other reviewers are right in that you have to stick with dishes that work for you. I, for one, liked the Socca, but I wouldn't rave about it. I also made the mistake of ordering the Hot Coppa pizza once and could barely see the actual pizza underneath the mountain of raw arugula they dumped on top. Not appetizing to look at, really difficult to eat, and... just kinda weird. Didn't really like the ratatouille pizza or most of the salads either, which are average at best. But, I did LOVE the La Mia pizza, which satisfied my skeptical, carnivore boyfriend. I also liked the pansoti (yes, the pansoti), lobster cream pasta (it was gnocchi when I was there and it was perfectly cooked and seasoned), torta, fava bean puree, flat iron steak, and a few other items. Overall, I like the chill, friendly vibe. I like that they've never rush me out of the restaurant, even though my friends and I linger forever. I really like the reasonable bill at the end of the meal. Thumbs up.

Now I understand the mixed reviews

The range of opinions about Nizza in these reviews from "it's great!" to "it sucks!" baffled me until I ate there. Some of the dishes the pesto pizza and the socca were delicious. The pizza crust was perfect and the toppings were fresh and flavorful the socca was unusual and tasty. If I'd only eaten those, I would've loved the joint. Other dishes, however, were pretty lame. The calamari and potato salad was overly oily and bland. The chick pea fries were also greasy and suffered from a serious texture issue. And the pansoti a ravioli-type pasta stuffed with greens? Well, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. All three dishes were bizarrely flavorless. The service was good and the atmosphere is pleasant. It was packed early on Friday night I'm guessing the repeat customers were there for the pizza. Bottom line: it's not a bad place if you stick to a few selected menu items.
