I have to agree with the comments before mine in all ways. It can be a romantic atmosphere for a date night, but be prepared to overpay for the actual quality. Don't get me wrong....a lot about this place is quite pleasant. But it's not as good as some that are more low-key, understated elegance that don't have to try so hard. I'm used to pricey places.....this place has the "flash" but it reminded me of an old SNL routine where a couple goes into an Italian restaurant where they fawn all over you but not in a geuine way. The food is good, but there is better in the neighborhood, and there is actually better service in the neighborhood, too. Still, it does have a certain ambience if you're trying to impress a first date. But I was a regular when it first opened and I'm just not as impressed as I was then. I just think you can get better for the price.

I have to contradict the reviews here. If you want overpriced, sub-par Italian food in a cheesy setting, then go ahead and come here. If you want to listen to an Italian who has lived in Italy and dined all over NYC for 25 years, then take my opinion for what it's worth: the service can be annoying, whether they are being pushy or lax in getting you what you want, the food is not up to standard with other places you could go in the area (UES, and the rest of the city), and the ambiance is just cheesy, as I said before, packed to the gills with the B&T crowd.

I've been to this restaurant numerous times and the food and service have been impeccable each time. The atmosphere is great, warm & intimate, although the piano player on weekend nights makes holding conversation a bit difficult. However, the delicious food more than makes up for it. The owner even walks around and stops by the tables greeting the patrons. Overall the service from when you walk in the door to when you leave makes you feel special. The complimentary dessert fruit basket is a nice touch. Try the spinach ravioli. Good stuff. I recommend this restaurant to all of my friends and co-workers. Even a cab driver randomly mentioned this place & how much he loved it to me.

Nino's is one of the best placed for a date, is personal, semi-romantic with a true Italian menu. All the pastas are incredible, and try the Italian cold & hot antipasti.... is amazing. Dinner for 2 with a nice wine won't cost more than $200.... worth it!

Dinner at Nino's made my birthday a perfect experience! The atmosphere was everything I hoped it would be-warm as the terra cotta colored walls, romantic, low-lights, lovely frescos and wall hangings. The food was very well prepared; inventive without veering too much from the traditional. But it is the service that allows this restaurant to stand out from the rest. Every thought or need was premeditated by the bevy of unobtrusive waiters, without prompting by our table. After filling out a comments card, on which I revealed that this was my birthday dinner, we were graciously offered a drink on the house. That, and the fruit platter offered to all diners, was a perfect end to a perfect dinner. We will be returning very soon!
