Great food and service lousy wine pricing
They charged me $65 for a bottle of Banfi Centine red. A wine that can be found for around $11 or less retail. That is offensive. I will NEVER order another bottle of wine at this restaurant. I have been to Nino's Tuscany many times, usually when I have a event at one of the nearby concert halls. They always get us out on time, the food is always very good and the service is great. I knocked them down on value to 2.5 because of the wine pricing. I will only return if they have a reasonable corkage policy. I define reasonable as under $35 per bottle. Anything under $25 per bottle would be considered a friendly policy. Its is a shame that what should be a nice dining experience is ruined by the greed of their wine pricing. I feel like the picked my pocket.

Prix fixe not what you think
We have been going to this restaurant for many years. At dinner recently, we were given a choice of the regular menu or prix fixe @ $36 for a 3- course meal. My wife ordered a special entre and an appetizer off the regular menu. I opted for the prix fixe meal which included items I would have ordered off the regular menu. The portion size served to me from the prix fixe menu was totally inadequate. Each serving was barely enough to eat. When I decided to mention my disappointment to management, I was told that's what we serve when you don't order off the regular menu. Quite an unsatisfactory answer! If you are going to offer a prix fixe menu, you should either mention on the menu that the portion size is reduced or serve a regular sized portion. It is supposed to be a "good deal," not a "small meal."

I know...
I am a concierge in the area and have eaten at all the restaurants within a 5 block radius and Nino's Tuscany is a great restaurant with upscale service and great food. I like it because it is not a tourist trap and is still close enough to the theatre district and Lincoln Center for my guests. Tony and his brother are sexy and care about their customers. The gentleman who plays the piano is delightful and even takes requests.

Nice dinner before a set at J@LC
I went here a Friday night before a 9:30 show at J@LC in the Time Warner Center. The place was half full, had a piano player doing Sinatra music. The service was friendly and paced just right. We had the Beef Carpacio special, the Ravioli from the menu and the mixed chop (venisoin, lamb and veal) special. My friend and I split all three dishes, which they did in the kitchen for us. The specials were great. The ravioli so so. Even splitting everything, it was a lot of food. I will go back, but next time order a little less. The bill, before drinks, and tip, but with the tax was $91. Not bad for a nice place in NYC.

I would definitely go back!
I don't know why everyone is complaining about this restaurant..the food was great. I had the salmon al limone and my mom had the penne straciscate as entrees and both were excellent. Waiters were overly attentive, but the atmosphere and music were both really enjoyable. The only thing I did not like was the sorbet.

Overpriced, bad service, mediocre food
Let me preface this by saying that I am not a food or service snob by any means. I've had plenty of enjoyable lunches from delis in the area and halal chicken from carts... and would have rather eaten there than Nino's. Our office made a reservation for about 20. When we showed up, they did have an especially long table for all of us to sit at, which was nice. We opted for the prix fixe lunch, $20 a head. The tab was well over $400 with all of our drinks, but the service did not reflect that at all. Several waiters took the orders for our table, and it seemed as though there was an order to it. However, starting with drinks, and then for each course, several waiters came up all at once and started calling out dish names, waiting for someone to raise their hand and claim it. This was such sloppy service - it felt unprofessional, and caused a lot of confusion. Each course also took FOREVER to arrive. It was two and a half hours from seating until finishing dessert - for lunch service! They were good about refilling water but not so hot on other drink service. On the topic of confusion: when the main course was set out, we were short a plate mine. I waited patiently for another 15 minutes for my salmon while my coworkers finished theirs. When it did arrive, it was undercooked and lacking any flavor. I don't believe they made any effort to season it. Most of my coworkers were unimpressed as well. The most insulting part of the afternoon, however, was getting INSTANT MASHED POTATOES on my plate. Yes, a $20 lunch and they can't even afford to boil up some real potatoes, once of the cheapest things you can buy at a market. They were also squeezed out in a bulb... like how Dairy Queen serves soft-serve ice cream. I'd expect it from a deli, but not a sit-down italian restaurant and not an hour after we all placed our orders. The only redeeming part was the dessert (also miscounted again, but this time i only waited an extra five): delicious italian cheesecake with a nice ricotta texture.
