    Very Overpriced

My girlfriend and I went there with 3 other couples. We were seated in a private room, which was like a jail cell. The waiter was slow and kept forgetting our drink orders. She suggested the shabu shabu, which is a pot of broth and basically 4 pieces of steak-umm's which you have to cook in the broth and it was disgusting. We each had 2 drinks and the bill came to 1200.00. This place is way to expensive and the food is mediocre, at best.

I have the BEST friends in the world!

My friend and roommate took me here as a surprise for my birthday and it didn't disappoint. From the moment we arrived it was theatre. The three of us were led down a dark corridor and after a right turn, a left turn and some stairs we were seated in our little room. It was awesome. Attentive, pleasant waiters. AMAZING presentation and the best part --- THE FOOD IS DELICIOUS. Seriously. Everything we ordered was gobbled up with aplomb. Tasty and satisfying. Great for special occasions!

    Bizarre ambience, tries too hard

The gray slate ambience and dark, confusing alleyways of this restaurant scream "trendy" and "short-lived". They literally have to have someone lead you to your table, and when you're seated, you're in a tiny cube with no contact to the other diners. While that might sound nice, it feels more like a prison than privacy. We had a reservation and still ended up waiting 30 min at the bar for a table, where there was no bartender and no light to read the menu. Once seated, our waiter was a little too attentive and in the process somehow forgot to serve us an entire $20 appetizer (and we were charged for it), something we didn't realize until later in the evening. We only received one menu when seated, and the showy "play with fire" food demonstrations really just weren't my style. In general, the restaurant tries too hard and instead of living up to the expectations, the place is dark, confusing, and cold and the service is well-intentioned but ultimately its obsession with upholding the ambience detracts from the basic quality of service that is necessary. Forgetting an appetizer is completely unacceptable, especially at these prices. If you're a New York tourist, go and experience a trendy Asian fusion restaurant, but being that it's in Tribeca in the middle of nowhere, maybe you're better off somewhere closer to midtown. New York natives, don't waste your time or your money. You can get much better elsewhere, especially if you're like me and are over the whole "our desperate trendiness covers up for our lack of genuine quality in food and service" thing. Can't we just get a nice restaurant with good food that doesn't need all the bells and whistles?

    Great date place

The overall experience was great. It was very entertaining and the food was presented beautifully. Me and my boyfriend chose the fixed meals. The steak was, in my opinion, terrible. Other than that, everything else was wonderful. The appetizers were great, but the best was definetely the dessert. I reccomend the sorbet. It was definetely the best I've ever had. Awesome service with very attentive waiters.

Good service, food is pretty good too

Our waiter is a pretty funny guy, and he plays fire tricks on demand. During our dinner, some ninjas came to surprise us by making sudden movements or sounds. During the 3rd course, a ninja came and performed card tricks for us, and most of the ninjas plays fire tricks. It's a good place to bring a date, and the food is pretty good. I wouldn't go back coz of the price, but if you haven't been, i would recommend a visit.

    Well...

This place brings back bad memories for me (whole nother story) however objectively I would have to admit that it would be a great place for a date. The ninja waiters are chock full of suprises, the drinks are good and the food is better than theme restuarant fare. I would like to go back and try one of the tasting menus but had a wonderful steak and conch dish when I did go. I would say do it once like I did.

    Totally Worth It

My boyfriend took me here for our anniversary, and I was hesitant after reading some of these reviews. I'm so glad we went, it was one of the best and most memorable dining experiences I've had in years. The food was delicious, prepared and presented beautifully, the staff was attentive and the atmosphere was unique and intimate. This restaurant is absolutely worth the price, especially if you are celebrating something. I will definitely be going back for my next occasion.
