    hoped for better

I had lunch here last week. Great atmosphere for a restaurant across Madison Square Garden. The hostess was very nice and accommodating. Once our order was taken the food took an unreasonably long time to arrive. (This was a business lunch and I don't like to put pressure on my clients since they have to get back to their offices.) The food itself was less than memorable. The salmon was more than dried out, it was like eating sawdust. All I asked was that it was cooked through, not drained of all its moisture. The sauce on the plate tasted almost like cambells tomato soup. After finishing, our waiter never re-appeared. I had to ask another server walking by for our check. There's room for improvement here.

    Tries too Hard

In the wasteland of Penn Station, we were hopeful that this place would be a find. The bar atmosphere was great and the staff very nice, friendly and attentive. Though the food could have been better. I guess it was a great "value" but I would have preferred higher prices for better food, or simpler food that tried less hard to be fabulous. Would not make a special trip for the food, and would avoid going back...

    Always Satisfied

The staff is terrific!! I've been going for years... I do miss the old style but the new is fun. The food is always good and prices are great.

    After work drinks

Usually a decent crowd here after work, the food is OK for a bar, and the atmosphere is nice

    A Terrific Find

This place is in the middle of fast-food heaven by Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. Thank goodness such a great, inexpensive place exists near MSG! Imaginative menu, friendly service, and great atmosphere!

Cool Place to hang before MSG Event

Niles is a great place to get together before any MSG event. People slam the bar but the service is quick, music is pumping and the martinis are great. The food is good and great for the value. The staff is super friendly and eager to please. Everyone in the place always seems to be having a great time and the atmosphere is unlike anything you have seen...

Great Atmosphere, Food Not as Good...

Great bar, really nifty new decor now that the restaurant is finished; too bad the food does not taste as good as either the presentation or the decor looks. The calamari was OK but not terribly fresh, it was saved by a delightful smoky dip. If only they would buy FRESH seafood, it would be a real winner. The pear salad was a real disappointment, it looked great but was trashed by some of the most bland goat cheeze and tasteless balsamic vinegar ever sprinkled. The presentation was supurb, the taste was missing completely. This could be a really great find if the chef were given the OK to buy fresh and go for the more expensive (and tasty) ingredients. OK for hotel food, maybe, but the decor deserves better.
