A diner should not try to serve authentic greek food

Everything about this place was sub-par. The octopus was mushy. The veggie moussaka was tantamount to a microwave meal. The hummus was inconsistent, and yes, like other reviews here, the bread was stale. And it wasn't cheap either. I would avoid this place. Much better great greek food in the UWS. This place should be serving eggs and burgers.

    pick and choose carefully

several of the items at niko's are excellent.... i think their hummus is the best in the area (though they only give you half a slice of pita bread with it) the pizzas are great - especially the niko's pizza....super thin crust, so you ca really eat a whole one yourself pastitio and moussaka are good.... the fish dishes and grilled items are always dry and overcooked....and the platters have dribs and drabs of things all around the edge that make it look unappetizing service is excellent here...staff is one of the nicest on the UWS oh...and the bread is always stale...i cant figure out how that is possible.

    Expensive Diner Food - Bad

Stale bread. Food is not fresh, it's not cooked to order.

    Excellent value!

We eat at Niko's about twice a month and my parents eat at Niko's about three times a month. Have been going for years. I don't know how people can call it expensive. The food is top quality and always fresh. The portions are so huge that you can usually share them. Love the fish, pizza, greek spinach pies and the fantastic greek salad. Only gripe could be that they only serve Greek wine which is not my wine preference. Service is always great.

    It's the FRIENDLY Place

I don't understand any of the gripes. I've eaten at Niko's often--mainly for lunch--and find it about the friendliest place in the 'hood. The menu's huge. The food's good and reasonably priced. The service is consistently cheerful. There's always an extra little freebie (today, apple slices sprinkled with cinnamon). What more do y'all want?

    Wonderful!

I'm really surprised at all of these bad reviews below! I've eaten here twice recently and both times the food and service were excellent! I had the grilled calamari dinner the first time and the seafood bouillbaisse the 2nd time. Both were generous portions of wonderfully cooked food. I also tried the baked custard (wrapped in phyllo with sour cherry compote on top), and it was a huge portion and sooo good! They also give a free tiny cup of dessert wine and a tiny cube of cake. It's a nice touch! Looking forward to going back and trying more from their huge menu. I highly recommend!
