    Not recommended

Bear with me here. i have been to every single vietnamese sandwich (bahn mi) place in new york, including venturing out to brooklyn chinatown just for them (there is a good place there in a small bakery, you'd never know it). i was enthusiastic when they first opened, being near my apartment. unfortunately, these are sub-standard, and there are better places to go.

    the best sandwiches EVER

these sandwiches are probably the best sandwiches i have ever tasted. another cool thing about Nicky's is that they're really nice and very, very cheap. the sandwiches are a little small, though, so you might want to get two ; )!

    excellent picnic fare

Got a classic sandwich, a chicken sandwich, some spring rolls and drinks and biked to an outdoor concert. Couldn't have been happier about the sandwiches. The bread was toasted, excellent. Marinated carrot & veggies on a sandwich! Kind of healthy! The meats were also marinated and delicious. One sandwich is plenty for husband sized appetite. Spring rolls were kinda bland, but kid loved them. Whole shebang cost $12. We will put Nicky's in our rotation!

    Jewel in New York

I stumbled by this small wonderful sandwich shop on East 2nd Street a few months ago. It was about 3:00P.M. in the afternoon. What struck me was the huge line at that hour and others outside. This was a must try! I had never enjoyed a Vietnamese sandwich, but I got hooked. Whenever, I'm within a huge radius of blocks, I eat lunch here. Always busy, I've heard many comments...and many of them from Vietnamese and others from travelers to Vietnam. It's a must try. You'll definitely become a convert. The overwhelming sales features: FRESH INGREDIENTS ( the best bread anywhere, the freshest and crunchiest veggies, )FRIENDLY STAFF, and REASONABLE PRICES. What more can you ask?

    Delicious Vietnamese Sandwich

I had been looking for a good old fashioned Vietnamese Sandwich, something that would remind me of San Francisco's Little Paris' sandwiches. Anyway, I found it here at Nicky's. I liked everything about the meal: the crispy and soft insides of the French bread, tasty minced meat in sauce, crunchy fresh vegetables and cilantro, etc. It's a good sandwich, but I wish the venue was larger. The shop is a hole in the wall, and the staff is friendly. If only they had a large restaurant uptown... I would be a regular customer!

    Delicious and cheap

A friend of mine told me about this place a few months ago knowing that i had just returned from vietnam and i would likely be interested...the day i finally made it down there i bought one of their sardine sandwiches and started to walk while eating it...i think i walked about 15 blocks while eating it when i decided that it was so good, i HAD to walk all the way back and get another one. to be honest it was like nothing i had in vietnam, but that didnt matter. since then ive tried every kind of sandwich available and none have disappointed. the bread is perfectly toasted, the chicken, sardine and pork is nicely marinated as are the vegetables...it is a perfect little sandwich. watch the jalapeno though if you dont like spicy food- just specify how hot you like your sandwich...if i could fault the place at all, it can be a tad slow even even if there is one or two people being served.
