With all the options available in the city, this would definitely not be on my radar. I agree with an earlier review that if someone were taking me out, I'd go along with it, but that's about it. Mediocre, to say the least.

The negativity of posted reviews are surprising. We have had nothing but excellent meals and above average service. The service is, to be sure, variable but ranges from very good to above average. The service would rank a bit above comparable places that we visit with similar frequency in the area such as Ocean Grill, Ruby Foo, Josies, and SQC. The decor is pleasant. As early diners, our main complaint is that the staff has difficulty actually seating at the nominal 5:30 opening time.

I'm surprised at all the negative reviews (and I often write them). I've been to NIce Matin about 5 times now, maybe 6 and I have to say, we had an absolutely heavenly waitress who seemed to really care about us. I've had the short ribs (divine!), great soups, great salads. The hamburger is to die for if you like them. My friends enjoyed their fish very much. Lots of tasty items and always fresh. What gives? It's so much better quality than say, the overtouted Cesca and Ouest.

We had dinner at Nice matin last week and the service was not good at all food was ok. Won't return.

We have eaten there twice and will return for a third time. Fresh, seasonal ingredients, creative combinations. Reminded us of summer dining in provence. We also like as our upper west side parisian bistro, alouette at 98th & b'way.

Indulge in the delicious cocktails, five napkin burger, and crisp, salty fries and skip dessert! the perfect dinner.

Went back for a second time and it shows that lightning does strike twice--unfortunately for the restaurant. You know it's going to be a rocky night when, as you're waiting, you notice a waitress grimacing constantly--only to have her as your waitress later. She turned out to be okay, but she sums up the service when she disclosed that it was her first night, and they just threw her into the chaos with no particular training. There is a lack of orchestration. It seems that everyone working the floor does his or her own thing; no coordination with anyone else. My steak was delicious, but as it was the first time I went there, my dessert beverage was lukewarm. The same applied to my friend's cappuccino, and she sent it back, but by this time, I just wanted to leave. If the restaurant can improve its service and manage to serve HOT beverages, it's worth a try. Otherwise, unless someone is treating me, I won't be going back--and even then, I'd try to steer the person to another place.
