Nothing special
Next Door looks appealing from the outside, and given that I live a block away, I really wanted to like it. Unfortunately, there is nothing to recommend at all about this place. The food is consistently bland, and the prices are similar to restaurants downtown. But you don't get anything near the value and taste than you would elsewhere. Basically Next Door suffers from the same problems most of the restaurants in Washington Heights suffer from, and especially those on West 187th St (107 West, Bleu Evolutions, Next Door) - the food is mediocre, the service subpar, and the menus are all the same. I've been there three times now, and wont go back - until this underserved area gets a few decent restaurants, I'll have to keep taking the train to the UWS to get decent food.

Easy to like
I always enjoy eating at Next Door. One reviewer commented that the food was bland, and while in the case of some dishes I could understand how one might feel that way, it all depends on what you order. I had the tequila lime grilled chicken salad and it was incredible. The chicken was full of complex flavor and was very healthily perpared. The calimari appetizer was delicious and flavorful as well. One thing I don't care for is the huge window. I'm just a private person and I don't like everyone staring in on me, nor do I want to stare out at them, which is hard to avoid when the entire wall facing the street is made of glass.

Fresh food and lots of choices
Well prepared food and wide variety of choices. Delicious: tuna sashima with guacamole and green apple appetizer; turkey meatballs cappellini; mushroom ravioli w/ shrimp, salads. Surprisingly fresh sushi and hand rolls for a non-Asian restaurant all tasty and beautifully presented though not terribly authentic...but that's okay. Wait service is very good. And attentive: tried to order a non-alcoholic beer but they didn't carry it; I went two weeks later and the beer had been added to the menu. Very nice. Prices are in line with NYC but high for the neighborhood. Though food quality is superior to any other restaurant on the 187th St. strip so it's worth it. Very clean, relaxed atmosphere.

a GEM
Love this place! The best restaurant by far in Washington Heights. Best dishes: Turkey Meatloaf, Balsamic Chicken, Crispy Kani Roll and the Cheeseburgers. Great food, reasonable price, friendly staff...my husband and I eat at Next Door at least once a week. The menu is so diverse one can always find a delicious and healthy meal - no matter if they are in the mood for sushi, beef, chicken or pasta.

Kinda bland
I want to like this place...I really do. The idea of healthy food coupled with the cute decor makes me want to eat there, but every time I order something it's kinda bland. I think they just need to rework some of the recipes. You can be healthy without sacrificing taste.

Decent for a change of pace
This place doesn't quite know what it wants to be. The menu is all over the place. It offers both sushi and Italian. It also wants to be organic and healthy. Pick a theme and do it right. To be fair, the meatballs were excellent, but my friends dish wasn't as good as mine. The restaurant has a nice vibe. Loud enough that it's "happening" and interesting, but quiet enough to have a conversation. It's worth checking out, but I haven't followed my own advice again.

Relaxed Fine Dining Near Fort Tryon Park
A hidden gem -- definitely one of the best restaurants in Washington Heights. Lovely atmosphere (good lighting, exposed brick, candles in wall niches, tiled tables), excellent sushi (try to chirashi), and friendly staff. Not as busy as it deserves to be! Delicious martinis and sake at happy hour (which goes late).
