We visited this restaurant on 11/5/11. We had a coupon for four that we purchased from Groupon.com. The food was good and we liked the interior of the restaurant. However, we will never return to this place and will not recommend it to any of our friends. It seems that the management doesn't really care if you return or not. We had a bottle of wine that we had brought with us and the manger told us that we were not allowed to bring our own liquor. This was not mentioned in the coupon. The manger was very fresh and rude to us. The prices for wine are outrageous there. We offered to buy a bottle of wine and pay a cork charge for the second bottle. The manager would not agree to that. This is not how you treat your customers, especially in the Russian restaurant where they always allow you to bring your own wine or would state it on the deal. Too bad the place is nice and cozy.

After reading negative comment about Tzar Restaurant I tried to discourage my cousin from celebrating birthday at this place. But she already made a reservation for party of 10 and did not want to change it. I was pleasantly surprised from the moment of entering the restaurant. Opulent décor, welcoming atmosphere, superb service, but on top of all - delicious and generous portions. We had terrific time and I apologized to my cousin for urging her to cancel this reservation. We’ll definitely be back for another special occasion. I am glad that the management took criticism from previous patron seriously and improved service and menu to perfection. Thank you.

We celebrated our anniversary with a fairly small group of friends and family. There was 13 of us. We opted for a set price Deluxe menu at $115 per person plus tax and tip. For that amount we expected more food, but the restaurant disaapointed. They switched and skipped dishes, the quantity was unbelievably small. They presented lobster salad as 3 small pieces of lobster and one jumbo shrimp with a huge salad to be divied up among all of us. Fresh vegetavle platter was a bunch of parslej and scallions. White marinated mushrooms (porcini)were substituted for shitakee. They switched beef in mustard sauce for a canned artichoke salad with mustard sauce with 5 rolls of store-bought pastrami. Seafood salad was not given at all. Hot Seafood combination was substituted with already included as a separate dish seabass with shrimp and risotto. In risotto they added carrots instead of promised mussels and scallops. Eel salad with seaweed did not have eel, seaweed was added to tuna tartar. Fancy deserts were substitute for store-bought cheescake variety. They only brought wine included in price when we reminded them that it was included. There was a lots of different kind of lettuce in all of the dishes which just gave an appearance of full plates. Service was OK, the waiters saw how upset we were and tried their best, however, when they packed our leftovers, they did not pack potatoes with mushrooms, which was plentiful left over and one of the better dishes served. They tried to charge $115 for the kids 2 nad 3 years old for which we ordered chicken fingers and fries as a separate dish since they naturally did not eat from the adults table and were charged $28 (!) for. It was the most dissapointing parties that I ever gave and will never go back to that restaurant ever again. Luckily there was only very close family and friends and they understood that it was not our fault that the restaurant sucked. Naturally we and they will spread the word among our friends not to go there as well. I called afterwards to speak with the owner to voice my dissapointment but the manager took my phone number and the owner of course never called back.

Decor is fine and music is OK. But the service! We had a party on Saturday: food was OK, portions are too small but the "service": they told us that we didn't tip them enough! All despite charging us 18% service charge and us giving $85.00 extra. She (our waiter) said that we need to tip kitchen staff and other personnel as well.
