    Not at all impressed

I work as a concierge in this neighborhood and am constantly sending people here for breakfast. I decided to stop in for lunch one day. I ordered the chicken parm, because one of the reviews here had raved about it. The reviewer was obviously NOT Italian. This was by far the worst chicken parmigiana I've ever had in my entire life! Dry, tasteless, just awful! I come from an Italian family and grew up in an Italian neighborhood and I know that even mediocre chicken parm isn't this bad. It was just absolutely dreadful. I even contemplated a dine and dash for a moment, because it killed me to have to pay for something so bad. Breakfast here is good, from what my guests tell me, but I would avoid anything else. At least avoid the chicken parm!

Live next door and my review

Having been in the service business in the past I can say that for those who complained about the service it is as well one of mine. (it could be easily remedied). I.E. not coming back to the table - but it seems in these days one can say that of many places. They know me even! This occurs mostly when it is slow and I always get a free glass of wine for my "troubles", lol. (My friend and I ate their just last night and mentioned it to a new person and he made it a point to not have us have to "flag" him down). Knowing this though I still go for certain meals and the red "house" wine is yummy! But they are clean and if one knows the menu there can be some great selections. The Half Roast Chicken for dinner with REAL mashed potatoes, real gravy, lightly sauteed vegetables and green tossed salad (or soup) is an excellent value and excellent tasting. Great spice for chicken. I am having a Reuben now, glass of red wine and chocolate muffin for dessert - all for 16 and change. The Reuben is enough for a lunch tomorrow. When I have a cold and can't come down the staff helps me and the elderly in the building to be well taken care of. The value is great for this area

    Breakfast is Best

Some of the other reviewers mentioned that the food was mediocre and I found this to be true of their lunch and dinner menu. However, BREAKFAST is by far their best (and busiest) meal served. Even with a line out the door, the wait is generally no more than 10 minutes. The food comes quickly, hot, fresh and delicious. The orange juice is freshly squeezed, too. So, if you're headed to this diner, I recommend only eating breakfast there. Besides, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. (I've dined there multiple times each year between 2004-2009)

    Wished we'd found it earlier!

Had a great breakfast the last morning of our NY visit, complete with movie star Keith David! Had we discovered it sooner, (just up one block from our hotel, Marriott East Side) would have enjoyed more meals there. Ah well, next time!

    special place

Just stayed 6 nights at the Waldorf (23-28th Aug) had 4 breakfasts and one dinner at the Luncheonette. Perfect location. Brilliant every day. Q'd outside the door 2 days waiting a table for 3. No problems. Proved it was popular. Food lovely, staff nice, friendly and helpful. Thanks for a great diner experience.

it must be a insiders' tip...

Great food, especially the chicken parmigiana and the Chickken Fingers We were there for 5 times, the service-quality is depending on the waiter or waitress, so we had one day a side-salad (included) and one day not. But the food was every time yummy!
