Good american breakfast
As a Swiss tourist, we're looking for a good american breakfast restaurant. Very delicious pancakes and waffles at the New York Luncheonette! Nice and friendly staff. I will return anyway...

Don't believe the doubters !
Our party of 5 ate breakfast on 4 consecutive mornings whilst staying at the Intercontintental round the corner. I'd read some luke warm reviews but we decided to give it a chance and am glad we did. We could not fault the food or service and the atmosphere was that of a typical New York diner, which is as visiting Brits is exactly what we wanted. Give it a go !

Poor service
Terrible service on a takeout order for breakfast. I ordered the breakfast special with pancakes, eggs and sausage but I asked for home fries instead of the meat. Instead of a simple substitution, they charged me for a side of home fries and the meat. I had to take this up with the manager because the staff was rude and unhelpful. Breakfast ended up being average at best and 2xs the typical price for a NY diner.

Not at all impressed
I work as a concierge in this neighborhood and am constantly sending people here for breakfast. I decided to stop in for lunch one day. I ordered the chicken parm, because one of the reviews here had raved about it. The reviewer was obviously NOT Italian. This was by far the worst chicken parmigiana I've ever had in my entire life! Dry, tasteless, just awful! I come from an Italian family and grew up in an Italian neighborhood and I know that even mediocre chicken parm isn't this bad. It was just absolutely dreadful. I even contemplated a dine and dash for a moment, because it killed me to have to pay for something so bad. Breakfast here is good, from what my guests tell me, but I would avoid anything else. At least avoid the chicken parm!

Live next door and my review
Having been in the service business in the past I can say that for those who complained about the service it is as well one of mine. (it could be easily remedied). I.E. not coming back to the table - but it seems in these days one can say that of many places. They know me even! This occurs mostly when it is slow and I always get a free glass of wine for my "troubles", lol. (My friend and I ate their just last night and mentioned it to a new person and he made it a point to not have us have to "flag" him down). Knowing this though I still go for certain meals and the red "house" wine is yummy! But they are clean and if one knows the menu there can be some great selections. The Half Roast Chicken for dinner with REAL mashed potatoes, real gravy, lightly sauteed vegetables and green tossed salad (or soup) is an excellent value and excellent tasting. Great spice for chicken. I am having a Reuben now, glass of red wine and chocolate muffin for dessert - all for 16 and change. The Reuben is enough for a lunch tomorrow. When I have a cold and can't come down the staff helps me and the elderly in the building to be well taken care of. The value is great for this area
