what do you expect from takeout chinese

The below reviewers are rating it likeits 4 star cuisine. its a chinese takeout...and a decent one at that. The service is good,Everything on the menu is decent to good...ive never had a soggy order of chicken like other places. And again as far as MSG is concerned, what do you expect from takeout chinese. If you want a quick 5 dollar chinese lunch Kim loon is a good place to go. If you want authentic chinese, well go to east corner wonton in china town or on of the many other authentic chinese spots. If you just want a quick lunch/dinner go to kim loon.

Lived in the nabe for 13 years -

.... and I have gone way, way, way too many times out of convienience... All I can say is that if you love food doused in MSG, regardless of what the menus say (take a look at the huge drums labeled MSG in the back) - and you like bad chinese food, -then definately go. Otherwise you are really out of luck for anything thats deemed good.

    Sometimes Wonderful, Occasionally Awful

As I sat down to write this, I found it very difficult to figure out why exactly I've been ordering from these guys pretty religiously for the past seven years. Let me say right away, I love Kam Loon. I'm just not really sure why. The kung po chicken is occasionally really tasty, but it's usually squishy and oddly unchickenlike. Their vegetables usually taste pretty odd. I wouldn't necessarily say "bad", but one does have to wonder how they turn a regular, innoffensive carrot into something that tastes somewhat like laundry detergent. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't always taste that way. Sometimes they really do impress me. It's hit or miss, but when they miss it's pretty horrifying. So, why do I keep ordering from them? Dumplings. Their dumplings simply taste better than the dumplings of every other Chinese delivery place in Greenpoint. I love me some dumplings. I'm totally willing to put up with soapy, spongy kung po chicken so long as I get to taste their awesome dumplings. Huh, I really should just get two or three orders of dumplings and forego the chicken altogether. Their Singapore mei fun is really good though. I totally dig it. Yeah, just get dumpling and mei fun and you'll be fine. As far as the actual restaurant goes, it's really not worth going to unless you live right next to it. It's just an average hole in the wall with a counter, a few plastic tables, and a small buffet. The buffet is not even worth mentioning, though, as it is completely lacks dumplings. As stated above, it's all about the dumplings. This place is good for what it is: a fast, cheap dumpling delivery service.

    SHOULD BE CALLED HO HUM

The buffet is not worth anything, warm tasteless food at best. The pans are almost empty at all times. I was told this keeps the food fresh. Take out was slightly better but still blah at best.Seafood dishes are a big disapointment, the shrimps and scalops are tasteless. All the flavor is in the sauce.
