    A Must See

One of the best bars in town! I loved the food, the atmosphere and the amazing tram they have working there! Thanks for an awesome evening out Nelson Blue!

this is a bar, awful food but great for drinks

The food is overpriced, and very bad. I've tried lunch here, dinner too. At times we get appetizers with our drinks but even that's nothing above pub grub. Service is so so, you have to go to the bar, where the bartenders are friendly and try to get your drinks fast. Busy, crowded after work. Go for the bar scene, eat somewhere else.

Awesome place - great food and service

Nelson Blue is one of my favorite places in the city. It's worth the ride down from Midtown just to dig into some great food at a bar with a friendly bartender and waitstaff. Unlike many "after-work" places, Nelson Blue doesn't have that meat-market feel and the music isn't so loud that you have to scream to be heard. Try the lamb chops, the DUB pies and the sides. Ask Pauli to set you up with NZ wine.

good to see on the map!

i am a fellow kiwi and was very excited to hear about nelson blue! was'nt too crowded, our waitress was good but was missing alot when we needed her . great wine/beer selection.ordered burgers which took a while to come but were very tasty. have to say though , had pavlova for dessert & was very dissapointed, for those pavlova experts,we all know that it's not about the outside shell but is about getting that thick, soft filling thats light and airy like a souffle,of which there was nothing in ours so we ended up with a meringue! bad points for that. did meet one of the owners who was very nice and think this place great for drinks and friends.good luck

    Great Food, Great time

I have been here a handful of times with different groups of people each time and no one has been been disappointed. The bar atmosphere is great. A good selection of Kiwi beers and wines as well as the usual stock. The wood carvings that populate the place are awesome. The food is excellent. I always start off with the mussels in curry sauce which are without a doubt, the best I have ever had. The skewers are also a good bet as well as the venison sausage. For the main course I usually have the lamb chops, which I love and the meatloaf sandwich. I think this is a great addition to the neighborhood. Check it out for yourself. You won't regret it.

New Zealand Style, all the way.....

What a great little bar, if you've got something bad to say about this place, you need to take a look in the mirror and have a word. Maybe... "Go home and get a life", this place is great. Wall street crowd to rugby and footy fans, Nelson Blue, with its great selection of beers and it's cheery staff, makes everyone feel at home. Kiwi by name, Kiwi by nature if you ask me! A sociable bunch behind the bar, waiters and waitresses get put under some pressure when it gets really busy, but they don't forget you and they always have a smile and a friendly word; Now you can't fault them for that. As for the wine.... Ahhhhh the wine.... A whole wall of it to choose from, and some... talking of the walls, worth noting the decor. A hand carved canoe hanging from the ceiling, tribal carvings all over the place, check out the archway. Bold Striking, but Subtle; in it's own unique way. Not to mention, the "ALL BLACKS" flag hanging in the corner. True NZ style! The menu works to cater for all, affordable NZ style burgers and pies, to melt in your mouth New Zealand Lamb Chops. The Lipped muscles, fat and juicy, best in the coconut curried sauce if you ask me. Where can I buy them over here? Good luck! They get them fresh from back home. Now that's a long way, but worth every bit of the journey! And dessert... try the "Hokie Pokie" with a slice... Something to sing and dance about, delicious vanilla ice cream with little crunchy honey bits; creamy, crunchy and so, so tasty, I always have to have seconds. Nelson Blue; I always have to come back for more!

    Love me some nelson blue!

I work downtown and have heard a lot of coworkers talking about this new spot nelson blue. Last week i finally got down there and am so glad i did! This place was packed on a wed night. Lot's of business people letting there hair down after a long day's work. Our hot blonde server really kept us entertained and was always smiling. Even though i had intended on only staying for one beer it turned into a bottle of rare NZ wine and a late night indeed. Food is really good too I didn't expect it from reading some of the reviews. the corn and zukinni cakes are amazing! Awesome service great vibe loved it!
