Disappointed Once Again - Poor Service
Decided to give Native another try. This time I was excited to try their burger, since it is char broiled. I asked for it "medium well". My husband ordered the steak "Medium". Well, his steak came out almost well done and my burger came out bordering on "rare". The waitress never came to see if everything was okay. By the time she came to the table, my husband was already done with his steak. I told her the burger was too rare and to just take it off the check since it I didn't feel like eating while my husband was already done. The restaurant was not even crowded, but still the waitress was totally oblivious. Not sure why the owner doesn't seem to care that the food and staff are mediocre. Very disappointing.

good food but not so good service
I live in the neighborhood and have been here many times for dinner, because it's one of the few decent food options around. I have nothing bad to say about the food - it is consistently yummy. Especially the mac and cheese! (By the way, unless you're sharing it, it is too much for an appetizer.) I've had the same waiter a few times, and while he means well and is polite, he has messed up my order on a couple of occasions. The last time I went was the worst... I ordered the rigatoni with sausage and arugula. I got another pasta dish with eggplant. I told him it wasn't what I ordered, and he apologized and brought me back something else fairly quickly. Unfortunately, that was also not what I ordered. It was penne with a tomato meat sauce. Once again I told him it was not what I ordered. This time, he insisted it was. I asked him where the arugula was, and he looked at it, and said he was going to talk to the chef, and took it away. A couple of minutes later, he came back and informed me that the kitchen was out of arugula. (In most places, even if the wait staff is unaware that the kitchen is out of something at the time you place your order, the kitchen will tell the waitstaff when they get the order, and the waitstaff will come and inform you. None of that happened here.) He asked me if I wanted to order something else, but I had to ASK him for the menu. (As if I have the menu memorized?) I asked him how long it would take if ordered the salmon, because at this point, my boyfriend was 75% done with his entree. He said "that depends on how you want it cooked." In my experience, people don't eat salmon rare unless it's sushi. He insisted they do, so I ordered it well done. It came out pretty fast and was really tasty. In the end he did apologize multiple times and he comped our drinks, but it was pretty annoying to have to send back your dinner twice in one night! That said, the brunch is GREAT. I have no complaints about the food or the service, and it's an incredible deal.

great neighborhood brunch
Neighbors and friends have started a tradition here, Sunday mornings, for slow brunch and great conversation. Often 10 of us. We always have a great spot to sit and sweet staff. Some are picky eaters, and the staff patiently notes however many substitutions, and if ever they get it wrong, they make it right, right away. The brunch menu is very reasonable, $10-15. Food is great, and the atmosphere is warm. love it.

If food was better, I would like it here
cool little neighborhood place in harlem. I just moved here and I got a gift certificate to this place so tried it out for dinner. The place is small and cozy. We tried buffalo wings and the bread crumb coating threw me. I just ate one and I usually a huge fan. My husband had the chicken curry which was OK and I had the liguine paella. There is a reason why you should make paella with rice, so it can soak up all the flavor...it just didn't work for me with the linguine. Also, I prefer to have couple large sea scallops then many tiny tiny bay scallops. We ordered the chocolate mousse cake and the dark part had a real texture...like wet sand. It could have been better. I don't think there are too many of these places around here, if they improved their food, it could do real well. I don't think I will be going back any time soon.

Poor customer service
Since Native has been under new management, I've had negative experiences the last two times I was there. Both being poor customer service. The first experience was from the hostess with the "I could care less" attitude about my drink not being up to par. The second experience was lack of wait staff. There was only one waiter and one bus boy on a busy Thursday evening. No manager in site. People were leaving to eat elsewhere. The new management of Native needs to definitely step up their customer service game. There are too many other restaurants in the city to choose from and right now I am choosing to not patronize Native in the future.

nice local spot
i'm new to the neighborhood and have now had several chill evenings with friends over at native for drinks, dinner and even dessert (though i wouldn't say dessert is their strong suit). looks like they might even have outdoor seating in the warmer weather...hope so! *during broad daylight, the decor leaves a little something to be desired but the dim lighting at night is definitely sexy

food not impressed
i've actually been here a few times, only the first time by choice. the food is waaay over-priced and definitley not tasty enough to make up for it. the cocktails are really good, and the chocolate vesuvuis dessert is amazing. the place gets kinda loud and cramped, but no more so than any other nyc restaurant. if you go there, just have dessert and some drinks and save yourself the disappointment of eating the food.
