Last week, I went to Nanking, with a group of 12. We made a reservation prior to arriving at the restaurant. We had requested to have the table at seven but clearly that didn't happen. At seven, they gave us half our table and told us that it would still take a while for the remaining six seats. We watched and waited patiently for two friends to finish so we could receive our table. Eventually, we all got seated and were excited to eat. A fan of dumplings, i figured it would be a good idea to order 3-4 dumplings per person but luckily my friends stopped me before ordering. As soon as as the food came i knew i was disappointed. Nothing looked great, the spring rolls were too oily, the lotus was too sweet, and the dumplings were just disappointing. I was hoping the the main dishes were better but once again i was disappointed. There was lychee in my vegetable...like is that a joke? the service was a bit weak too, we ordered some shirley temples but the waiter forgot to bring them, and after reminding him on several times, he brought us something that tasted like medicine. After the main course I was still hungry cause i had not eaten enough cause i didnt like the food, i decided to reorder a plate of spring rolls. The first time they were decent so i ordered them again, except this time they weren't. After taking one bite, i put it down and called for the check. After the bill came and we realized it was 20 dollars a person. It seemed really expensive for food that wasn't exceptional. The only good part was the paneer chilly, however i wish they had more paneer in it. I would not recommend this place. If your looking for good chinese, definitely try Wild ginger or Shun lee. The vegetarian wild ginger is great.

The chili shirmp dish was out of this world, went there for lunch with a co-worker and we really enjoyed the great spicy food and they have the best thai-ice teas... super delicious, Not sure why this place got rated with negative reviews ... but to each's own.

Me and my family went there last week, Friday...we came from Long island to visit...Everyone had a great time....The food was great i suggest the chili chicken and the Red snaperfish. The noddles were okay. The service was pretty good too. We are regular costumers at Nan king.. i highly recommend it. i always visit the long island one to eat with my family..but i think the one at Manhattan is much better. it s on a good location, GREAT food, and good service. if you and your family come to nan king i'm sure you will have a great time like my family did

So the food wasn't bad however it was not great either. The wait staff at the NYC location has got to be the most clueless bunch I have ever met. First, we ask them if they carry a specific wine. The waiter shakes his head no. We then ask, do you know what wine we are talking about. And again he shakes his head no. So we ask, if you don't know what we are talking about, how can you say no??? Then, we ask the waiter how many drum sticks come in the appetizer. He says "5". There were 6 of us, so we asked if they could add another drumstick. He says, "No". We say, "I'm sure they can another drumstick". He says "no". So we say, "ask the chef" and lo and behold they can add another drumstick!! This went on all night!! Not to mention, we almost died of thirst repeatedly during our dinner because they did not think on their own to come and fill our water glasses. We would have to tell them to come and please give us some water and even then they only filled the glass of whoever called them over! Then the kicker. We get the check, 2 people put in cash and 4 put in credit cards. Waiter comes "the machine can't process more than 3 cards." Manager comes "machine can't process more than 3 cards". We say "of course the machine can, it's the restaurant that doesn't want to." Manager says that we should have alerted our waiter before we sat down that there would be more than 3 credit cards being used. REALLY???? So we say "well we don't know what to tell you because all of us don't have enough cash." And he has the nerve to say, "to process the 4 cards i have to use another register." REALLY??? I fail to see how that becomes our problem. In the time he stood there arguing about his register he could have been done. That being said, food not that good that I would put myself through such bad service again. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT (at least not the one in the city!).

Surprising that this restaurant has so many customers split...many find it overpriced, sloppy and bland while others don't. Unfortunately, although the food is subpar in this indo-chinese eatery, the service is poorer. The chicken was fatty and the sauces were too sweet. Most of the items were not as advertised in the menu. And the manager wouldn't take the food back when shown the problems. Should have walked out, but was with a large party trying to get to the theater on time. No need to try them again.

Ordered lunch at work the other day. Food was overspiced and sloppy. The food didn't hold up to the two block delivery. The portions were tiny and the meal was EXPENSIVE. Not going to order from them again.
