    The SImple LIfe

Was there on 12/28 for dinner and all of the food was great. The scallion pancakes were excellent and we tried their YING YANG and it was truly fantastic. They don't offer noodles with the soups and they didn't bring us tea, unless you ask. Their ribs are juicy and meaty. Nancy Lee is an excellent hostess.

    Best ribs

A NY Times review a few years ago turned me onto their ribs--simply the meatiest and best in town. The pork shu mai is also great, and I love the moo shu vegies (to balance the ribs). No delivery problems in years.

    Bland and MSG

Having heard great reviews of this place in my neighborhood I was very eager to try. I ordered take out there last night and had the worst sleep due to the MSG in the food. I couldn't even eat the hot and sour soup as it was thick and bottom line tasteless even though it is my favorite. I ordered the crispy orange chicken and while the quality of meat was good, there was no flavor. I would not order from there again.

    Breaks the Bank...

We have been ordering from Pig Heaven for years. Rarely eat there because do not love the atmosphere and the portions seems bigger when you order. It has to be the most expensive Chinese food in this neighborhood by far...almost Shun Lee prices but, and here is the good news, it is almost worth it. Depends what you order. Here is our go to menu: shredded chicken with garlic sauce (not on menu), fried rice, sesame chicken, ribs, moo shu veggies, steamed veggie dumplings. Sometimes we get the eggplant in garlic sauce but it can be very greasy as of late. This basic order will run upwards of $70. We have never had a bad meal. The chicken is all chicken...all white, with some thinly sliced water chestnuts and tree ear mushrooms. No celery filler that they use in lower end restaurants. Point is...yes, expensive but the quality is way above most others. This is a case of you get what you pay for.

I just had food delivered from this restaurant. It was by far the poorest meal I have had delivered in twenty years of ordering on the upper east side. The dumplings were not edible . I tried three different kinds one as bad as the other. The sesame noodles were tasteless. The scallion pancakes soggy. When I called to complain the woman who answered was unhelpful and more or less told me my taste buds were at fault. I will never order from here again and I suggest if you are thinking of it you should reconsider.

I'd go back, I'd order it again

I had high hopes for Pig Butt, and it didn't disappoint! The meat was juicy, tender, and sweet. The bok choy was flavorful and fresh. The brown rice was plentiful and al dente. I would go to Nancy Lee's again, and that says a lot living in NYC where there are thousands of restaurants, and even more being in the upper east side where the neighborhood is packed with awesome spots. I would order these dishes again absolutely and can't wait to try the ribs (they looked delicious!). The place was humming at 7:30, packed and festive by 9, and at 10 the mood got even more lively with a 3 piece jazz band. This joint has a lot to offer, even in NYC!
