I cannot tell you how excited I was when Murray's opened. I LOVED their bagels and gladly went head-to-head with anyone singing the praises of H&H bagels (which I personally found to be overrated). Unfortunately, while Murray's prices have crept up, the service and quality has gone way down. The employees are unfocused on customers and tend to be easily distracted. It's annoying when you're made to feel like an inter-employee conversation is more important than your business, and even more so when you come home with the wrong order or something missing (which has happened to me at least twice). Now onto the bagels...um, are they cooked anymore? Problem with the ovens? I used to love the richly colored crust, but now, they're so blonde and raw-looking!!! And how about the seeds -- is there a shortage somewhere we don't know about? What used to be a generous sprinkling is now a mere representation of what type of bagel you've just purchased. And GAH...the taste. Not. The. Same. At all. Murray's, I hope you step it up. I am on the verge of breaking up with you and looking for a better bagel.

This review is for their catering service-- which I strongly do not recommend. I order catering for clients on a regular basis and thought I would try Murray's Bagels as a breakfast treat over the Holidays. I placed an order for almost $700 worth of catering and had problems at all steps of the process. - Placing my order took forever, as I was put on hold by there store 5 times. I also felt like my detailed instructions for delivery were disregarded while she was taking the order. - My fears were realized on delivery day, when there were many issues with delivering to the right contacts and my clients had to call me several times to figure out delivery. - I need to keep track of my catering receipts for reimbursement. I asked them to email or fax them to me on two different occasions and was told they would fax them the next day, which never happened. I did not receive these receipts in time for reimbursement and therefore am now out of pocket for $700 worth of business expense and will not receive reimbursement. Long story short, they tout themselves as a premiere catering option in NYC, but run a really flaky operation. Reliability is crucial for catering service and they just do not deliver. If you're looking for catering there are much better choices: Lenny's, Mangia, etc.

Maybe the best bagel in town. However, they have a no toasting policy which I dont understand. I live on the block and go to Murray's about once a week. Every time I experience workers with no patience and a big attitude. If it wasnt on my corner I would look to go somewhere else due to the service.

I went here twice now, once for a bagel and a coffee and the second time for just a coffee. Both times I experienced rude workers and the people working there are very unhappy. I have worked jobs where I don't get paid a lot, and still do and I'm happy to have an income! It's ridiculous. Anyway, the bagel was okay. I had a pumpernickel, and can say it wasn't great and it wasn't bad. I've had cheaper bagels that were better. I like the coffee, it's nice coffee. But today I went in JUST for a coffee and didn't want to stand in the bagel line because it was nearly out the door and I went over to the register and cheerily said good morning to the staff and ordered my coffee. I was rudely questioned about why I wasn't standing in line, and my response was that I was just interested in coffee and shouldn't have to stand in the line for food ordering. They gave me a nasty look and handed me my coffee (after a few minutes of waiting because I think they were angry), but honestly. Give me a break. All I wanted was a coffee - they were pissed like I should be standing in a line for 20 minutes just for a coffee? I should have walked the extra block to Starbucks where staff is friendly and they understand what it's like to need a cup of morning joe.

Bagels are the best i love the healthgrain Bagels the pizza Bagels salads the chais made with milk not water. Its always busy when i go but i have seen customers who are grumpy first when ordering even after they were greeted so I could imagine how upsetting that could be for the workers but I have never had a bad experience with them. Their bagels are demanded by many but like every business there are going to be bad reviews.I say go in and try them out for yourself:) period
