Nasty Service - Subpar Bagels
I went here twice now, once for a bagel and a coffee and the second time for just a coffee. Both times I experienced rude workers and the people working there are very unhappy. I have worked jobs where I don't get paid a lot, and still do and I'm happy to have an income! It's ridiculous. Anyway, the bagel was okay. I had a pumpernickel, and can say it wasn't great and it wasn't bad. I've had cheaper bagels that were better. I like the coffee, it's nice coffee. But today I went in JUST for a coffee and didn't want to stand in the bagel line because it was nearly out the door and I went over to the register and cheerily said good morning to the staff and ordered my coffee. I was rudely questioned about why I wasn't standing in line, and my response was that I was just interested in coffee and shouldn't have to stand in the line for food ordering. They gave me a nasty look and handed me my coffee (after a few minutes of waiting because I think they were angry), but honestly. Give me a break. All I wanted was a coffee - they were pissed like I should be standing in a line for 20 minutes just for a coffee? I should have walked the extra block to Starbucks where staff is friendly and they understand what it's like to need a cup of morning joe.

Best Bagels
Bagels are the best i love the healthgrain Bagels the pizza Bagels salads the chais made with milk not water. Its always busy when i go but i have seen customers who are grumpy first when ordering even after they were greeted so I could imagine how upsetting that could be for the workers but I have never had a bad experience with them. Their bagels are demanded by many but like every business there are going to be bad reviews.I say go in and try them out for yourself:) period

Best Bagel in Manhattan. Period.
I've eaten here several times with friends and there's simply not a bone to be picked where food is concerned. So go elsewhere if you need a comfy place to sit in and chit chat and be served by smiling or efficient staff... unfortunately they mix up orders and service is painstakingly slow. Murray's good for food. Period.

Below negative posts?
I'm pretty surprised by the negative criticism - mostly stemming about "sit down" and "take out service". If something becomes popular and has a cult following, of course it's going to be crowded and delivery will take time - common sense. There's a reason for it too... it's really damn good! There's an army of people behind the counter churning out orders and they are definitely hustling and working their butts off so it's not that they lack service, it's just that the demand is great. The other posts sound more like "whiners" than actual legit criticism. Move to the suburbs!

Over-exaggerated
Murray's Bagels is nothing special. It is an ordinary bagel store similar to any bagel store you will find in your town. The first time I ate at Murray's (3 years ago), I honestly liked the place, the service was friendly and the food was decent, but I went there yesterday and realized why so many reviews on this place is negative. First of all, the place was WAY to overcrowded and WAY to noisy. I could barely hear the employee! The wait on line was very long as well. Second, the service wasn't as familiar as it was 3 years ago, I wasn't treated like a customer, I was treated more like a "consumer". In other words I am just another person they want to make money off of, they didn't seem to smile much or say anything like, "Have a nice day", the man just gave me my bagel with cream cheese that I ordered and said a simple, "Thanks", but in a way he didn't really mean it. Even though it was busy that morning, they should still at least make my day feel better. The bagel stores in my area are friendlier than Murray's! Third, I don't really understand why everyone keeps coming here. It's decent and all, but everything is very overpriced. The bagels (for a store that's known to be famous for its bagels) are too expensive. I can get 2 bagels from a nearby bagel store for the price of 1 from Murray's, with almost or just the same quality. I don't understand how people keep giving them their money for purchasing food that's overpriced and overall, not worth it. I feel like Murray's is slowly declining. It's just not the same as it was the first time I went. Even though I've only been there twice, judging by the reviews, I can tell this place is not special anymore and is just another bagel store.

Decent Bagels...Awful Service
I've been ordering from Murray's for years, but their service has gone down the drain lately. Not only is it too crowded to sit and eat, but they have nowhere near the delivery staff that's needed to support the demand. It's ridiculous to be quoted 1 hour for bagel delivery in nyc...let alone waiting 2+ hours for the food to show up COLD. There are too many bagels and delis in NY to be as arrogant about their service as the manager and staff convey. Disappointing.
