I have ordered several times for delivery. The food comes very fast and hot, which is always a nice thing. If you order "hot" the food is very, very spicy; however, if you order "medium" it is quite bland and basically "mild" Also, sometimes they include bread and sometimes not, which is really annoying to discover after they already delivered. I have tried several courses and find the food just "ok" I havent tried other local places yet, but I'm going to. I dont think i'll order from here again.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a relatively inexpensive but nice place to eat the other night, and decided on Mumtaz. The people were very nice, the atmosphere-- music, lighting, decorations-- was great, but most importantly, the food was fantastic. We started off by sharing potato-filled bread (forget the name, oops) and each ordered a different type of vindaloo. It was very spicy, as the waitor warned us, but that's exactly what we love anyway. At the end, he gave us (on the house!) two sweet yogurt-type drinks to neutralize the hotness, which tasted amazing. Overall, great value for the price, would definitely go there again.

I cannot believe the other reviews. The chicken curry was not good at all. The chicken itself was of very poor quality and the sauce had no taste. The samosas were OK. Wouldn't get food from here again.

Mumtaz is definitely our favorite place to order from. We get delivery at least 4-5 days/week and I'd say we order from Mumtaz once per week. I am a creature of habit and always order the same delicious dinner- Chicken Tikka Masala and Veggie Samosa. My husband varies from the Chicken Shag, Chicken or Lamb Dupiaza, or Chicken Vindaloo and loves them all. He also gets Paratha or Chapati which he really likes. What compelled me to write this review was I recently ordered from another nearby Indian restaurant because of a connection they had to my Upromise credit card... I will never do that again! Why mess with perfection... this place rocks!

I grew up in a fairly unadventurous family, as far as food was concerned. The only foreign food we ate was Chinese. Not even Mexican. So, when I moved into NYC in the 70s, I'd never had Indian. But whenever I passed this place, the wonderful aromas intrigued me. So this was my first introduction to Indian cuisine, and it's still one of the best. I have one special favorite thing on the menu. It's the Vegetable Soup. A lovely red lentil soup dotted with fresh green peas. On one visit, a guy at another table ordered bowl after bowl of the wonderful stuff. He stopped after 6 bowls. Gladly, they had some left for me! The appetizers are very good and freshly hot, not reheated. The wide array of curry preparations are all very bright and flavorful. Even the Vindaloos, which are very hot, aren't too over-the-top so that you can't taste them. The spiced tea and dessert round out a wonderful meal. The wait staff are superb, and the decor with blankets over the areched ceiling makes you feel like you're in a caravan.

If you live in the Upper East side and DON'T try this place, even if you are allergic to Indian food, you are out of your gord. For serious. Delivery, eat in, you can't lose. You will have your water refilled so many times it will seem like it is raining the nectar from the very ceiling above you. The Chana Baji is an unexpected delight with the lamb anything as a main course. The decor is decadent & outrageous, and that is a good thing somehow.
