Mumtaz India Restaurant

I just had Chicken tikka Masala from there. I ordered takeout. It was definitely unique but very, very tasty. Don't be hesitant to order from there. For the price, the food is simply DELICIOUS! The Curry and the meat was very tasty. The rice was nothing special, but the Masala sauce surely made up for it. $12 for a nice Chicken tikka Masala.. you can't go wrong.

The night we went, which was for a celebration for the two of us, there no other diners in the restaurant. The waiter was rude and abrupt. They even started vacuuming before we had finished our meal! While the food was good, I would definitely not go there again, because of the way we were treated. I do not recommend the place.

YUM YUM YUM!! My Boyfriend and I decided to try Mumtaz last Saturday. We live in the area and have walked by the unassuming, two window restaurant at least a thousand times, this time, we decided to go in. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with low-cost red and gold Indian tapestries/fabric. The place is large compared to its small storefront. Mumtaz is truly is a hidden gem! We loved the food, friendly service and comfortable atmosphere. We had the appetizer sampler to start which, I would not recommend, but EVERYTHING else (porri, and 2 curries) was FANTASTIC. Our waiter even suggested a new curry for us to try based on our tastes - I think it was called "Koma". Of course, it was great! I can’t wait to go back! It is GREAT!

Ok, here we go. Started with the Pakoras... they were alright . A mixture of fried veggies and cheese, but could have done without. Mix pickle wasn't for me... but might be for some others. Had the Poori... was like a fried naan bread. That you should get. The onion chutney that comes with any entre was tasty. Had the Chicken Tikka Masala as a meal... the sauce was excellent, but the chicken itself was dry and generally flavorless. The sauce with the rice was probably the most enjoyable part of the meal. Had the Rasmali for dessert... the cheese it self was plain but the cream sauce it came in left me licking the bowl.

I lived on the Upper East side for 8 years. I now live on the Island of Hawaii. In those 8 years, I either went to Mumtaz or ordered in delivery from there at least once a week. I am a total food snob, so I am a tough critic, this place is amazing! The most delicious Indian food you'll ever experience. My favorite dishes are Beef Korma and Shrimp Madras, the rice is exquisite - they put almonds, peas, and some yummy grilled onion on top, mugli paratha, poori, and lots of mango chutney to top it all off. Yum! The service is warm and friendly, you will feel well taken care of. The atomosphere is pleasant. It's not well known, so don't be surprised if no one else is eating there - it's not because it's not good! I can't say enough about Mumtaz, don't miss this place. Every time I come home to visit friend and family, it's always on my list.

We have eaten here twice and LOVE the food. It's got a feeling of being "undiscovered" as a restaurant. The service is a bit overbearing sometimes, but that's only because we've had the place to ourselves. We have had EXCELLENT biryani, lamb dishes, and a spinach/chickpea dish that all knock our socks off. We eat Indian frequently and would recommend this restaurant to anyone. Friendly owners/waitress.

This is one of the best Indian restaurants that I've been to. The food is amaxing and it feels like you're in someones home having a home cooked meal. The samosas were fantastic and nothing was greasy. Definitely recommend tha aloo parathas. mmmmm
