One of my favoirte places that I love going to (if not, the favorite). Their food is absolutely mouth wateringly delicious! I recommend trying the shrimp bhuna for the appetizer. For the main dish, I recommend having the chicken korma or the lamb tikka (chicken tandoori is good too)! Overall, if your're an indian food lover or someone who occasionally eats it, then this is the place to visit. The quality of food is superb with big portions given and the sauces are just amazingly rich with flavor! The decor is very traditional, replicating Mughal style, historical India looks like one big sultan's tent. It s nice feeling to being in the east with all of its decorative faboric and of past grandeur. The service is friendly and warm and the seats are comfortable!

Mumtaz is one of the most authentic, down to earth Indian Restaurants. One of the best mouthwatering and irresistable tasting indian cusine ever. The restaurant itself is a landmark and has all the original decor from over the years. It is like sitting in a Maharaja's Majestic Private Dining Train Carriage with all the original decor. Aromatic scents coming from the kitchen, perfect carnations/flowers on the tables and everything perfectly matched and fresh. The staff and the owner always wait on customers patienty and always prepare their customer's orders on time with all the dishes freshly made. It really is an enjoyable and fantastic experience particularly if you like authentic Indian food done from scratch i.e., from fresh green chillies and all the other spices that are added to the dishes. The desert is amazingly prepared and absolutely divine. Mumtaz is hard to miss as you can always smell the aromatic fresh spices from blocks away.... making it rather difficult to walk past without stopping in.

Their chicken tikka masala was thicker than any others I had in the past. Flavor was good but the chicken was all white meat (I prefer dark meat) and too dry for my taste. Tandori chicken was pretty good and all around it was OK. I would order again but not a place I would go out of my way for.

I love this place. I haven't been in the restaurant yet, but every time I call (at least once every two weeks), the person on the other end is good natured and helpful. Never had any delivery problems whatsoever. Great price, delish biriyani. I usually go for the complete dinner with appetizer, entree and dessert. Yum.

No kidding, these people serve your food to you from the dishes on to your plate. Wow for the service. The place is kinda dark, so don't suggest on a nice sunny day, but nights are great. Food is great with really nothing to be wanted. No, its not the East Village places with all the chili lights and loud music, which is also cool, but a more relaxed place.

My husband and I had tickets to a MMA evening event, so we searched the internet for a restaurant close by. We both love Indian food and have been enjoying it for years, so naturally Mumtaz caught our eye. We didn't make any reservations, just dropped in at around 6pm and were seated immediately. Wait staff was attentive throughout our meal, in fact, and not too intrusive. We received our appetizer within 5 minutes, and our meal within 10. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, and not too pricey. Because our food was so good, we left nothing on our plates! This restaurant is defintely among the top of our list, for those times we drive into the city to attend an event and simply want an accessible restaurant serving wonderful, simple but filling meals, at a great price.
