    great service

tried Mr Tang for the first time, the three dishes we ordered were correct, the food was very good, and the staff was terrific. We will be back.

Can't take a simple order right!

We were only 1of the 2 tables filled, and ordered 3 dishes only. But our waiter managed to get them alomost completely wrong. He forgot the appetizer, brought us the wrong meat dish. Mind you, we only ordered 3 dishes, and done so in both languages, Chinese and English. Plus pointed the items out from the menu. I don't know what was wrong with the waiter, his mind sure wasn't there. He forgot our one appetizer, gave us the wrong beef dish, and refuse to admit his mistake, let alone offer an amendment. They were so quick to defend themselve. Me and my date sat there and barely say a word. We silently sworn to never return and never recommend this place to anyone. By the way, we asked for our bowl of rice twice. The waiters behave like car-salesmen. So quick to make a sale that disregard the concept of service all out of the window. Never again.........

    Sub-Par Food

Ordered the dumplings which tasted like standard dumplings, Egg Foo Young, again average, Roast pork Lo-mein, below average, and orange beef which was one of the poorest versions of that I have ever had. Had so much flour coating the tiny pieces of beef that it reminded me of funnel cake. On a positive note the BBQ beef appetizer was great, Super tender and slightly crispy at the same time. There is definitely better food in Chinatown.

Freinds that make you feel like family

I've Been going to Chinatown for close to 40 years. I've tried numerous resturaunts. My favorite from 1976 to 1991 (When the leae expired, the building owner trippled the rent ,from $3,500 to $13,000 I'm told) was Ko Shing Rice shop on #7 Division st (Old Confusious Plaza site). Authentic Cantonese cooking. I tried many places since, some good some poor, never to be as satisfied. Finally I tried Mr Tangs, I've been going for more than 12 years and am always delighted. Nicky Tang, the owner is a most charming friendly person that makes one feel like you are his cousin. Mr Chu Manager,Jackie, Mike, and Iris are most compitant wait staff. Please try Clams in Black bean sauce, Scallops in the crock pot (tell them the level of spice you wish), pan done live shrimp, Whole Steamed Flounder, or Prawns cooked in the shell Also a special treat is the ginger scallion Dungeneus (spelling?) Crab, pulled right from the tank. For veggies. Snow pea pod leaf, Chinese mustard greens (they have an inherient sweet and spicyness), Chinese eggplant, Ung Choy, or Baby Shanghai Bok Choy. The meats are good but I go for the seafood. Over the years I've taken dozens of friends, they have all returned, you will too!

    Delicious Food & Great Experience

This restaurant was great! Ignore those people who complained. The food was of excellent quality AND quantity. The service was friendly and courteous. We order a dish with a twist and they did not have trouble accommodating our reasonable request. Dishes were family sized and they didn't cheap it up with making the portions smaller. They all tasted great and we were all full from a few dishes (there was 4 of us) with some to take home. Atmosphere was fine. If you get a seat by the window, you can watch the people go by as you have your meal. Also, the more people there, the more noise you get but at the same time you know those people are having a really good time and enjoying their food. Overall, this place appeals to both the American Chinese style and the Authentic Chinese style foodie and is worth the few extra bucks.

    A child friendly experience

I took my seven year old daughter to Mr. Tang's for lunch and we had a great time. The tables were not on top of each other like in some other restaurant and we were not seated at the smallest table in the restaurant. The food was great especially the Wonton soup. The service was also prompt and courteous as a matter of fact I have not received service like this in years. Everyone was friendly and I would definetely go back whenever i am in Chinatown.

    Piece of China

I don't know if the other reviewers have actually been to China, or are Chinese, but I lived there for a while and ate out quite a bit. Mr. Tang offers in my opinion a very representative taste of what restaurant dining is like in Mainland China. While there are many other restaurants in Chinatown that do the same, with a much more lively atmosphere, Mr. Tang offers what I think is more common in the mainland. I like that it is somewhat less busy than the other, perhaps better restaurants down the street. Now true its not what most people eat at home in China, and doesn't come close to its flavor. I suggest trying the lettuce and oyster sauce and mixing it with a rice dish and a beef dish. I haven't tried the more expensive dishes. Don't go there if you want Shenzhen or Guangzhou, go there if you want Shoguan or Huizhou.
