The best Japanese in Midtown
I loved everything about Mr Robata. The food, staff and atmosphere are all on the money. Fish is fresh and prepared inventively. Robata stands outs include chicken breast, filet mignon and the scallops. The cocktails are great as well. Awesome Lychee Martinis here.

Avoid
This place is for tourists without taste buds. The salmon robata was extremely fishy and unedible. Clearly not fresh. The japanese fries were soggy.. How can you screw up French fries? And the sushi roll that we got cost $23 for poor quality and tiny pieces. The entire bill was outrageouly expensive for an awful meal. Could have gone for some sushi seki and spent an extra few bucks for the best in the city. Stay away. Touristy location for a tourist trap. You have been warned.

Very good food with nice presentation
Very good quality food, with a wide range of choices from robata grilled items to creative sushi rolls. I ordered the grilled octopus salad which was moist on the inside and nice and crisp on the outside as well as some kobe sliders which hit the spot after a few previous drinks at another location. Definitely one of the better restaurants in midtown.

Small and Pricey
This place is very very small and the prices are exremely high for what it is. Service was excellent

Chef Naka is BACK!
Chef Naka is BACK! I've run a Google alert on Masaki Nakayama ever since Tokyo Pop closed a couple of years back... and it was worth the wait. We had wonderful service and delicious food. The Foie Gras Cappuccino sounds over the top, but is a masterful blend of subtle flavors. The Sashimi Martini was delicious. The sashimi we ordered was perfect. The location seems a bit odd, until you walk through the doors. Beautiful and calming decor. And it's close to the theater so our 6pm dinner was relaxed and unrushed. But this was good enough to be a destination restaurant even on non-theater nights. We were told they are already expanding into the souvenir shop just south which is a good thing because it's hard to imagine this little gem staying hidden much longer.

The best Japanese in NYC
I ate dinner at Mr. Robata last night for their soft opening and the food was incredible. Everything from the Wagyu Filet to the Chilean Sea Bass to the exotic sushi. The fish quality is superb. The toro mango is excellent. The service was very friendly and attentive. The decor of this place was beautiful as well. I highly recommend this restaurant to anybody that loves sushi and extremely high quality food.
