    delicious but expensive!

this place is obviously going to chip a hole in your wallet. we went here for a friend's birthday and i can say that until i make tons of money ...there is no way i will be comin back anytime soon. the food is way overpriced and it wasnt even great. the sushi pieces were $6 a piece whereas u can pay $2-$3 and get something much more delicious AND authentic in st marks. morimoto is asian fusion but there is not enough "asian" in the food. the restaurant itself is really nice, the waitstaff were really friendly and often came to check on us. its a great place to spend a weeknight but unless you have the money to back the expenses up, i wouldnt recommend it.

    liked it!

quality was excellent, as was the flavors. we loved all of it - apps, dinner, desserts. why is everyone complaining about the price? it is comparable to other places of the same caliber. and they all have same-sized portions... this is not a buffet (nor should you ever be eating like that IMO). the portions were perfect - we were very satisfied and not still hungry. it was just right.

    delicious

It is absurd that anyone could rate this restaurant anything below perfect. It is overpriced, but the food is absolutely delicious, the best japanese I've ever had. The place is modern and well decorated. Perfect.

    Couldn't be better

I surprised my boyfriend for his birthday here. We both had wanted to come here and this was a great opportunity. The space is very beautiful - it's modern without feeling cold. Our table wasn't quite ready so we had a drink at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and even gave us a freebie when we commented on the drink the couple next to us was enjoying. After our drink the hostess came to tell us our table was ready. We had a great table which was separate from the others and overlooked the whole restaurant. Most of the other tables were communal or very close together. We liked that we had our privacy. We decided on the tasting menu of 7 courses. In addition, we added in two orders of wagu carpaccio. Each dish was so amazing in presentations and quality. Our server was extremely polite and very helpful. It's rare to find a place with so much friendly help. We noticed there was a lot of workers/servers here but I think it helped keep up the pace of the restaurant. Our waitress even recommended some great drink choices to complement our meal. The meal was expensive but it's something we don't mind since the food and service are so high. It's nyc so it's expected. I would def. recommened this place to anyone.

    Not worth the hype!

Well, certainly you won't find food presentation like this anywhere else. Unfortunately, beyond that it doesn't add up to the over $325 price tag for 2 people (with minimal alcohol). The service was rushed, we were asked multiple times "are you done with that", when we were either not done or still chewing. Separate courses were served at the same time, except for the side order that never showed up at all. Portions are tiny, we left hungry. The kobe beef was incredible, but for the usual japanese fare, aside from the extraordinary presentation, it was not any better than some of the best sushi I've had elsewhere, for a lot less money and much larger pieces. My toro was tough & sinewy. Go once for the smoke and mirrors, then eat elsewhere.

    barely mediocre

Here's a place that tries to be too cool but falls fatally short. This is no Nobu or Sushi of Gari - the food is only mediocre and the decor is annoying and crushingly b&t. I only hope that in the true discerning NYC type of way, this restaurant disappears or at least goes back to Philly with its tail between its legs...
