Do Not Ever Order From Here

For anyone who works in midtown- BEWARE OF MOONCAKES. While the food may taste okay, truthfully, it is pseudo-Vietnamese cuisine, and in comparison to real Vietnamese food, you will be left wondering. The take-out service is THE WORST IN NYC. I've had a terrible experience three times trying to get delivery. The first two times I waited OVER 45 MINUTES for lunch. I swore I would never order from there again, but made the error of doing so for one last time. Today, I ordered food, and called 3 times once 45 minutes hit. "It's on the way," was the reply, but nothing came. ONE HOUR AFTER ORDERING I called and told Mooncakes to cancel the order. Upon telling them that I had been a paying customer, but since they kept lying about the food delivery, they lost my patronage. NYers, clearly waiting 45 mintues to ONE Hour for lunch is unacceptable. I spent the rest of the work day hungry. Do you want to go hungry during your short, precious lunch break? I don't think so. STAY AWAY!

    Nice fresh change

It's like chinese food, but fresh and healthier. Two things regular Chinese food isn't. But I have learned that I don't like Jicama.

    A definite yes!

Glad I found this little out of the way place - unbelievable Miso crusted salmon plate for the price. Diner ambiance but friendly fast service and so reasonable. Will be back and back....

    Good food in the hood

Very happy about this place, any place like this where you can get great Ginger or lychee tea and a great salad is a keeper.

    What a find!

Extraordinary food at great prices! Thank you reviewers for steering me to this wonderful find. We had an amazing meal last night - pea shoot and garlic dumplings, edamame soup, jicama rolls, shanghai wonton soup, lemongrass shrimp and the famous cilantro steak (my favorite). Everything was fresh and fantastic! I have sampled many of NY's Thai/Vietnamese/Chinese restaurants and have never enjoyed every single dish as much as we did last night at prices this reasonable. The service was attentive, friendly, and fast. And the Lime Rickey was the best we've ever tasted. And even the desserts were great - especially a brownie/cheesecake/chocolate concoction. As other writers have noted, this is a simple, diner-style, very small gem. Do not miss it!

    Super Shortribs

I have been to Mooncake many times and sampled several dishes: fish tacos, chicken with buckwheat noodles, pork chops, etc., but my hands-down favourite is the Shanghai shortribs lunch entree. It's supertasty, there's quite a bit of ribs for the money, you have a side of slightly beansprouts (steamed?), and a choice of white or brown rice. Amazing for carnivores who are counting calories. To make it a perfect meal, have it with a Thai iced tea and go back to work smiling!

    Great little place

The plates and salads are great for lunch, as is the wonton soup on a cold day. The summer rolls are a wonderful light and healthy extra. Great little place.
