Christmas at Monte's
We come with our family to NYC every year before Christmas. We always have dinner at Monte's or their other place Villa Mosconi. There is no better traditional Italian than these. Pietro and the staff are great. Ask for the spiedini it is to die for!!

Great red sauce Italian
Monte's is great for a causal Italian dinner. I wont say it is the best Italian food in NYC, but the food is memorable and the waiters treat you like family. This is the place to go to for an unpretentious, delicious, red sauce dinner. The stuffed artichoke appetizers was wonderful.

Great Italian in the Village
I recently visited Monte's and our table all had the Tasting Menu. I wasn't planning on eating as much as I did! Our first course had clams, asparagus, and portobello mushrooms (all excellent). The homemade pastas we tried were great although I can't remember their names. The chef prepared for us a veal and chicken combination followed by an assorted platter of desserts. The tiramisu was excellent. as an fyi - After dinner we headed to the comedy cellar down the block which was hilarious

Great Village Discovery
Had the pleasue of dining at Montes. Great steak, Italian food and veal. Wait staff excellent. Not the least expensive Italian restaurant around but well worth the price. As an Italian-American I really enjoed the sauce!

The Real Thing
Recently rediscovered this gem and have returned again and again. The food is not old-fashion Italian---it is real Italian. Chef-owner Pietro Mosconi is the perfect, caring host. One special last night, fresh swordfish on broccoli rabe with a caper compote, was perfect (and huge). The basic tomato sauce here is the best.

Great Food - Great Chef
The stuffed veal chop is my favorite dish on the menu and my favorite pasta is the tortelloni montes. Both Giovanni and Pietro have been great to me over the years. For first timers, try the lasagna and make sure you stop by the bar for a drink before or after dinner.

Just what I was looking for
Went there the other night and it was just what I wanted. Sat at the bar and the gal sitting next to me had ordered some special shrimp and the owner/chef Pietro brings some over to her in the pan! He had extras so he gave me a couple. Delicious! So I ordered the dry sea scallops francese and they were incredible, as was the talapia marechiara (spelling?). Pietro also gave me a small side of his homemade gnocchi w/ his bolognese sauce (he's proud of it) and it was the best I've had. Not a cheap place by any measure, but great food and a fun and friendly atmosphere. I'll be back to try his other pastas and non-seafood dishes.
