    Delicious Snack

Sounds like most of the reviewers here have shown up late at night on the weekend looking for sweets. I came by on an uncrowded weekday midmorning looking for a late breakfast. I had the coffee milk, which was not too sweet and was sufficiently strong and flavorful. And I had the one signature menu item that apparently none of the other reviewers tried: the pork and egg bun. A soft, chewy Chinese bun daubed with hoisin sauce and herbs containing a warm over-easy egg and about 4-6 oz of hot, delicious pancetta. I had to stop myself from wolfing it down in order to properly enjoy it. For $9, the bun was not a bad deal. Try buying that much pancetta at Whole Foods - probably close to the same price. The woman behind the register was prompt and friendly and the woman at the grill who prepared the bun seemed surprised that I bothered to thank her - maybe the complaints about the service are in direct proportion to the courtesy extended by the patrons. Excellent meal, good service, decent value for a very trendy corner of Manhattan.

    Mediocre - Nothing Special

I'd heard rave reviews about this place, and I love Saam Bar, so I wanted to give this a try. Got the Dulce de Leche cake. It looked amazing, but it's really not good at all. The cake was dry and tasteless and the filling is just ok. The cookies are soft, chewy, and pretty good, but you can get cookies of that quality anywhere in NYC - hell, Peperidge Farm makes cookies just as good. The ice cream was very good, but that's all that stands out. This was a real disappointment overall and definitely not worth what you pay. They're operating on the reputation of their Momofuku name and that's what you're paying for.

    Overcrowded and overhyped

I'm a dessert person. It's my favorite part of any meal. So after reading/hearing all the hype, I had to check out the sweets for myself. I went on a sat night, which was a mistake. The place was so unpleasantly packed that it was hard to get a good look at the treats in the display. We chose to take our desserts to go, since there was no place to eat. We ordered a bunch of different desserts to try and each one was underwhelming. The flavors lacked nuance. Everything was either too sweet or too salty and overall kind of repulsive. After just a few bites I ended up with a bellyache. The ideas here are clever but they aren't well executed. It's not worth the long lines when there are so many wonderful sweets to be had in NYC. The name David Chang and Momofuku drew me to the bakery, but a lack of yummy treats keeps me from going back.

    Creative dessert.

I have nothing bad to say about the dessert at the Milk Bar, it's great and creative, but why don't they post the price on Menupages to make it convenient instead of going all the way into their website. Great desserts, expensive whole cakes!

    Delicious dessert!

Check out the cinnamon bun pie for something creative and new, or the compost cookie for a unique twist on an old classic. Everything goes down better with a glass of milk, the cookies are actually very fairly priced, and the rest of the food, while not priced low, is still very affordable, and the unique offerings make every penny worth it. Would definitely go back for more!!

    No.

The below comparison to Le Cirque / Masa is quite silly. This is a countertop that serves cookies and cake, not an establishment with world-class food and service. The service and design have improved since the opening of this place, but it's still lacking compared to other dessert establishments. Many of the items are too salty, as noted in a review below, and they're often (if not usually) out of their most popular items. I'd consider stopping by if I was in the neighborhood but would never come from elsewhere in the city, because there's a good chance they won't have what I want. There's no phone number, so there's no way to find out what they have at the moment. Generally, I like the cookies and some of the cakes/pies. I dislike the ice cream and the "milks." An entire serving of ice cream is enough for approximately 4 people- yes, it is "interesting," but a sample is about as much as I'd want to eat at a time. I would not order the milks again, they are a waste of money.

    yummy

I also don't understand why ppl give this place bad reviews. It's pricey but you get quality and innovative stuff! If you want cheap dessert, just go to Associated Supermarket and buy a pie there... Maybe it's because I've gone when it hasn't been crowded, but I thought the service was very good. I ordered a banana-curry loaf, and I tipped the guy a buck - I got a complimentary slice of the dulce de lece cake! Granted, it was a very skinny slice, but still, that's pretty damn nice. And I don't know what the reviewer was talking about, with cold coffee. They have hot coffee there. Its in a thermos. You ask for coffee, they give you a cup, and then you fill it yourself with that thermos. Anyway, I think the dessert is pretty amazing. Don't let ppl hype things up or down for you, just try the food and rate it for what it is!!
