Great place to chill out with friends after work

The place is a bit small but it is cozy and confortable to spend a good time with friends, take a drink/beer or have something to eat. Prices are reasonable. The bartender (girl at visit time) appears dry and unfriendly but after a few drinks she looks very friendly. The location is accecible by public transportation or driving and neighborhood is safe.

Took wife for drinks, bartender comes up to us asked us what we would like and walks away has we were asking her a question. The food and atmosphere were not to great. As we were leaving, someone thinking we were going inside, stopped us and told us not to go in that the food and service were subpar. Definetly the first and last time.

I will never recommend, I was in the restaurant celebrating my adult daughter's birthday. We ordered appetizers. Disappointing! I ordered fried chicken chunks, chips/salsa/guacamole. Its was somewhat dark in the restaurant. We get appetizers. the chicken was black. Fried in dirty oil. I order sangria, it was more like wine with fruit. Not good. We get dinner, just as unappetizing. Never again.

...maybe it was just the wrong day.

terrible experience. Service was super slow, took about an hour for burritos and whatnot. When the food arrived, it wasn't Mexican - it was like what somebody guessed Mexican should be. With so many authentic Mexican places in the neighborhood, why bother?! The waiter even commented on how he didn't have x-ray vision and that we had to figure out which burrito was which. The drinks were ok, atmosphere was nice - service and food sucked.

    Mojitos cheap n good!

Did not expect much based on the decor. Also, the place is dimly lit (great for breaking up with someone) more like a bar than a resturant. However, the food was great and when I was shocked when the bill came will definitely come back for a burrito.

    New management? So sad...

Mojitos was our go-to; anytime we had guests in town during the summer, wanted a burrito delivered, or a cheap place to have drinks... We loved it! Last summer we noticed many changes, including the bar area totally switched around, fancy new plasma screens, and the back patio expanded (but with much cheaper flimsy tables that are annoying to eat at). They slightly raised the prices as well, but the food didn't change so we were happy. Most recently, though, we ordered dinner and to our dismay they have a new cook. My chicken burrito just came with HUGE chunks (bigger than the chicken) of peppers and onion, carrot sticks and broccoli, not to mention the congealed yellow american cheese. It was inedible (the beans however, had changed for the better). I did what any previous food service worker would do, I called to politely ask if there was a new cook, and was told that there was. I told them the beans were fantastic, but the burrito had changed (it used to just be meat, rice, beans and sometimes white cheese). I was told that the burrito has never changed, and that I am wrong. And I was addressed as 'lady.' Really?!? can I just say BROCCOLI?!? and AMERICAN CHEESE?!? IN MY FREAKIN BURRITO???!? On what planet is this normal?

    My Regular Place

I've been coming here pretty much every Friday night with my friends for the last 2 years. The atmosphere is amazing, particularly on the back patio. Inside it can be kind of dark. The music can get loud but they'll turn it down if you ask nicely. The food is really good (except the salads) and somewhat more sophisticated than you might expect - particularly the ceviche and tamales. The staff is really nice and very fun (one night I salsa danced with them when the band was playing)... they always shake my hand and chat when I come in and they're very attentive. It's family-owned so there are only a few people working there, and it can get INSANELY busy, and yeah you might have to be patient. The other thing that bothers me is that they aren't clear about what drinks are on the happy hour menu. Mojito pitchers, for example, are not, certain kinds of margaritas... it's really weird. Make sure you ask. Basically though this place is my favorite in all of NYC, and as long as it's open you'll find me there on Friday.
