I lived around the corner for 5 years and just left the neighborhood. This was my favorite restaurant by far. There have been times when I had Miyagi 2 or 3 times in a week. The sushi is always fresh. The appetizers are wonderful. The waitstaff is warm and friendly. I will miss Miyagi so much!

I am not affiliated with this restaurant in any way and the owner is not my friend either. I just wanted share my thoughts with everyone on how exceptional this restaurant is. I go to Japan often and I have been lucky enough to go to some upscale restaurants in Tokyo so I have a pretty good reference frame to compare it to (in addition to Nobus and Megus of the world). Miyagi is not only one of the best places to have sushi in the City but it also offers a great menu which is full of excellent dishes representing the <<home-cooking>> aspect of the Japanese cuisine (only a small % of it since it is an incredibly broad and sophisticated cuisine). Check it out when you get a chance. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

What's wrong with not being very hungry, but needing a little something to eat at 10pm on Friday night? Nothing, especially when I walked into Miyagi, after getting off the A train from midtown. The men benind the sushi bar didn't say hello to me when I walked in, but I was greeted with a seat at the sushi bar, a hot towel and a cold beer. The miso was great, the California roll and the spicy tuna were tasty and the owner stopped by to say hello. When I left, the guys behind the bar thanked me and I left feeling great for under $15. I will definitely go back and I would recommend it to everyone.. PS...check out today's specials on the blackboard. I ordered off the menu and didn't see the board until later. Enjoy!

I have been going to miyagi since it opened many years ago. For almost five years I sat at the sushi bar every friday night. The owner still cuts the fish. It's very fresh. the service is friendly and hipper than you'd expect. The sashimi is best, as that's the owner's favorite skill. His specials are excellent. The steamed dumplings are decent. The special apps are above average. This place is a mainstay for us.
